That is some 4,500 nautical miles by Great Circle route of you motored non-stop, without stopping in any port. That is some 450 hours of motoring at 10 knots made good. Realistically, that type of passage calls for a solid month at sea via the US coast etc. Crossing the North Atlantic in Dec-Jan-Feb winter is not something you and the new Captain Highliner would attempt. Seasoned mariners don't make that passage in a little tub at that time of year either.

I'm sure you have some explanation. We can't wait to hear it!

I think simon's original post does illustrate one thing that I've noticed myself over the years.
My job allows me the freedom to dress however I please sometimes and other times, it's more appropriate for me to wear a suit and tie. Sometimes business casual is appropriate and sometimes shorts and a t-shirt will do fine.
I often eat in restaurants, do errands, or hobby while en route therefore I may be dressed in any variety of outfits.
I have definitely noticed that I generally get better service when dressed in a suit and tie than when dressed otherwise.

I normally just chuckle to myself knowing full well that no matter how I'm dressed, I'm the same person and my wallet has the same amount of $$$ in it.

I gave birth in December in England. During the last month I could not handle bulkheads etc so we moved into a hotel close to my favourite restaurant. Loki had to be in Florida for meetings in February and rhboatman came up with the brilliant idea of shipping our tub to Miami. By the way our tub is not 53' and not a coastal trawler. She is however fully crossing capable. To small to live in comfortably now, but quite capable of it.

So where am I? The day after the 3rd and I were cleared by my Dr in London we were on a plane from Gatwick to Orlando. Horrible flight FYI.

Played in Florida for a bit. Now in New Orleans for the Mardi Gras. I love the parades and had no idea it would be that much fun. Oh and yes we are now aboard again . And Key West our next port (probably) is about 60 hrs away, so expect to see me here a lot

And I find it hard to believe I would ever call our tub a coastal anything, nor say it was registered as the SS Minow nor claim she was 58 feet.

So now the tub went from the Florida Keys in November/December IIRC, 5,000 miles on her own bottom to "South Dock" in London UK for January, then "shipped" back to Miami for Loki's meeting in February, and now she is already over in New Orleans ready for you and your newborn to Key West again?

Who takes a boat to London for the winter to give birth?

Who moves it across oceans for meetings? Who moves it from Miami to New Orleans (having to pass around the Keys) for a land based one day festival?

Do you even have any idea how long it takes to organize Yacht shipping from the UK to Miami? Last I heard, Dockwise wasn;t even doing that run this time of year.

Hun, you really are not very good at reading are you? We left Canada and went up to see icebergs, Ireland, and arrive in London in the fall.

In general we expect to pay about $1.00 US per foot, including power and water.

Our tub budgets about 1 gallon of diesel per mile.

Sail boats are much less fuel intense.

In the early stages we were advised to budget 10% of the purchase price every year for maintenance.

It does not say we are docked there. It quotes the price. Can you see that?

I knew because we had been docked there.

Hun if you care enough to make stupid empty statements, go back and see when we travelled to UK. We had a terrible time finding ice bergs. GO LOOK instead of making insane comments. And she did not join us for the meeting .

2) Parents who want to be doubly certain their child has British citizenship.
3) Parents who think cutting the chance by almost 50% of their baby not making it to 2 months, makes having it there worthwhile.
4) Pregnant women who think being close to their mothers is important
5) Women who like the idea of having their child in the same hospital they were born.
6) Women who want to have a baby shower with most of their friends she grew up with
7) People who spend a LONG time getting there in nice weather and loved exploring icebergs. Ireland, Whales, etc.
8) Husbands who have had a life time dream of being a sea gypsy.

I sort of feel the same about you. Why would anyone not have their tub delivered to where they are when they want it? Why in the world would you not want to be where you want to be when you want to be there?

Oh why do you "have to pass around the Keys" that seems rather pointless? Why not do the Marathon route? Or even under the bridge between Long Key and Lower Matecumbe? Your route seems so much longer.
