The War of 1812 is one of the forgotten wars of the United States. The war lasted for over two years. The offensive actions of the United States failed in every attempt to capture Canada. Do not make us angry... you wouldnt like us when we are angry.

Football.

The first game was supposedly played in the USA between Harvard and McGill (Harvard wanted to play with modified soccer rules, McGill wanted modified rugby rules.) In the end both sides agreed that McGill's rules were better.

Of course the US history ignores that if McGill was already using these rules they must have already played the game before introducing it to Harvard.

Also add to the list Blacks and whites playing on the same sports team.

Many, many foreign aid projects funded via CIDA are agriculture and education based. Various 3rd world countries have some semblance of domestic food production due to Canadian efforts. Also, alot of 3rd world professionals receive training from Canadians as well as at Canadian universities. Health issues, from disease prevention, education, monitoring of food and water quality, are provided throughout 3rd world countries.

Alot of these efforts originate via the UN, farmed out to various countries foreign affairs ministries.

My question.... why do so many responses center on military accomplishments, or lack thereof.

And lets not forget the late Gerald Bull and his Supergun.

canada doesnt really do much at the global level....we're in afghanistan just because we pledged a war on terror with the US after 9/11...had we been in iraq right now, the army wud've probably been smoked cuz we dont have enough soldiers to send overseas...we shud really build up our military...looking at trade, we do most of it, almost 90% with the US when there's plenty of scope elsewhere e.g. india & china, europe, so we dont really get to go out there at an international stage a lot....altho most of the world knows abt canada, we're often confused with the US.

We take in lots of immigrants from all over the world and let most of them move to the GTA.

Awsome (echo). Hey, we invented the zipper? ..dirty bastards..

I remember the first Skidoo..we had one the second year they came out... bombing around town in that machine was great fun...tractor lamp for a headlight.. Everyone stopped to watch. I think it was a 9HP machine. (guessing)..the tracks kept coming off lol..it wasn't long before I took the water ski toe rope off the boat, tied it to the back of the maching, donned the hockey gear, strapped on my snow skiis...and away we went... skiing for hrs across the frozen lake... one lonely machine..the lake to ourselves.

We may have invented the zipper but a Japanese company has a near monopoly on them. If you check your zippers, you will find that a hell of a lot of them say YKK. That is one thing I have never understood. You would think anyone could make them and thus, there would be a lot of competition in the zipper market.

The Skidoo sounds like fun. Unfortunately that is one thing that I have never done.

Someone, you absolutely crack me up!! LOL.. My friend, I have come to greatly respect your penchant for detail... and yes.. i have wondered about that very thing! YKK ..i was wondering if it was an airport call-sign on my "fly"... or perhaps humor relating to a quick take-off event.. (use the imagination here)

It says here that the creators of Superman where Canadian..that must have been the litmus test to see if the reader was paying attention. Joe Shuster and Jerome Siegel (1938) (i just checked it) were from Cleveland Ohio...

nice try mr webmaster..ya didn't catch me sleeping.

You may be absolutely right about Superman. I don't know anything about the history. However, I did a quick google and this claims Joe Shuster was born in Toronto and went to Cleveland when he was 10. However, if you say this source is wrong, I'll take your word for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Shuster

10 is pretty young anyway to take credit for him (although New Zealand claims Russell Crow and I think he was pretty young when he left for Australia)
