What are you doing to save the planet ?

I'm just glad you ride a bicycle and don't drive .
I drive too... I need to for my business.

That said, I do feel it is responsible to "pollute" as little as possible, without going overboard. I reduce, reuse and recycle, and feel that responsibility towards our environment is a good thing. But this whole "carbon footprint" thing has me in a bit of a tissy. And don't get me started on carbon credits...

The point of my earlier post was not to try and squash the environmental movement. Not at all. I've gone "on record" many times on the forum talking about responsibilities over rights, I just have real issues with anyone when the say we need to save the planet. The planet will be here long after we (the human race) are gone.

Ok... todays physics lesson... Kinetic energy is (In very simplified terms) the conversion of energy of ONE potential to a lower potential.
So your moving wether in a car or a bicycle is the consuption of some form of potential energy.
So where is the potential energy stored in a car? In the gas tank.
Where is the potential energy stored in Spanglerdoo? In her muscles as a form of glycogen.
Now where did YOU get that potential from? Actually from the food that you eat which has a bunch of inputs that greatly outweigh the output to you. You are far from efficient as an energy converting machine.

SOooooooooo if you want to take the EXTREME(!) view... then to save the planet Spanglerdoo needs to conserve as much potential energy as possible and she should therefore stop eating.

THe earth has warmed and cooled repeatedly in the past..... we are really is a warm period between ice ages (and ice ages are the real natural state of the planet)
Its happened before we were here and it'll happen long after we have gone too.
Since when does help saving the ozone layer become extreme ??? I can give you a lesson on phyisics ...god forbid i mention solar power this might turn out to be a world war 3 thread

No, she's always been a cruel bitch. Since the beginning of humanity she beat humankind down with the brutal heat of the sun. For milleniums, man had no air conditioning for refuge. When man made his way north, the bitch beat tormented him with the icy winter chills. Whever man went, the bitch plagued him with diseases, ailments, and parasites. She made it necessary for animals to have to kill other animals and force them to endure excrutiating pain for their own survival. She is at odds with all that we do and we have tried out best and have made some progress in creating some comfort for ourselves in Her world.

When she is ready, she will snuff us out as she has done to countless species countless times before. Fuck Mother Nature.
Mother Nature says take care of what was given to you or fuck off and die .

It's not entirely futile. China got it right with the one child policy. It takes time to make a difference but they have now got their population growth under control.

Got it right? are you kidding me? since they only kept the males and aborted or killed the girls, there are now 25 million males with little prospect of finding a mate. Sure the numbers may have been kept in check but balance went out the window.

The sun is burning so hot and so close to the earth that the temperature is rising for the planet .Makes me think of a big melting pot . .During the ice ages there wasn't a gravitational pull that we have now .The south and the north are not coming together like they used to .Also during the iceages there wasn't the industrial revolution, there wasn't plastic and there wasn't greenhouse gas .copper is one element that doesn't belong in soil .

Dessert and floods can be reduced if we stop promoting and start rebuilding .
Where DO you get this pseudo-science? Give it up, before you make a bigger fool of yourself. My two budgies know more science than you do.

You would be surprised at how many Chinese families have more than one child, despite the 'law'.

i am speaking logical science and i also am going to ask you this if an atom and a proton have negative force then how do you produce a nuclei from a nucleus?

Just to see if you understand what you are talking about, please tell us all, what are the results of such a collision?
i have the answer ....the question is do you ?

Remember you think I'm highschool physics so it should be very easy for you

The greatest problem facing mother earth right now is an excess of oxygen. All that pure H2O makes people giddy, thus causing poor decision-making. To counter this, I bought 4 diesel-powered generators which I keep running 24/7 in my backyard - not hooked up to anything - in order to help, in a small way, rid the planet of all that extra oxygen.

What am I doing to save the planet?

I drive a hybrid.

I recycle as much as I can.

I try to minimize waste and energy consumption.

I don't litter.

I teach my children to appreciate nature and this beautiful earth we live on.

Guess what? I'm a conservative. I'm surprised at the number of lefties on this board and other places that have a real cynical attitude towards the environment and/or don't do anything about it personally because it's, "somebody else's problem."

Some of the comments on this thread tend to support that observation.

A proton is positively charged. Where do you get this 'negative force' from? What do you mean by nuclei from a the nucleus? What are you talking about an atom having a negative force? An atom is, for all intents and purposes, a neutral entity, with equal number of electrons and protons. The number of neutrons might vary, within a narrow range of numbers that depend on many factors that a neuclear physicist will be able to explain.

Obviously, you have NO idea what you are talking about, do you?

What qualifications do you have with respect to science?

My 1st instinct is to do the exact opposite of anything a hippy green protester wants me to do. God love them they mean well but havn't got a clue. Anything they do almost always has the exact opposite effect they intend.
not sure an Environmental Engineer would agree and they would have much proof to support their arguments.

now... what do I do to save the planet? not much. I am a consumer. I eat up alot of energy as I am a Canadian- a country of the worst energy consumers on the planet. Sure, I pick up after my dog, don't litter and keep my yard clean, recycle to the best of my knowledge, run clean, newer vehicles... but none of these save the planet from much... afterall, it involves breathing, eating, and drinking to live, polluting to lower pollution, consuming to reduce, reuse and recycle. we are the antithesis of saving the planet.
