...most people don't like to hear (let alone believe) that.

I can't speak with confidence about Canada, but in the U.S. NO GROUP has benefited as much as white females from Affirmative Action...and this isn't rhetoric...it is a documented ad nauseam fact...just research the hiring gains made by women in the last 40 years versus other minority groups....or college admission ratios / rates.

No kidding. But the golden age of women's rights is ending. I don't think a "Golden Age" of Minority rights is going to replace it. In fact there are a lot of marginalized white males who are tired of affirmative action. What I forsee is re-segregation and balkanization. Look at Toronto's proposal for an all black school. It's just candy coated segregation. But because we are Canadian we do it in a "Nice" way.

Most of all I see a rising tide of anger. The only people who have really benefitted from Affirmative Action are white females and that is at the expense of white males. I just don't see that trend continuing. I see it reversing.

Also, I think that as the USA collapses, which it is doing right now in slow motion, American issues will dissapear from the global stage. "Women's Rights" and "Ending Racism" and "Freedom" and "Democracy" are American ideals. When America falls its ideals will fall with it.

White guy has a business. He can't get affirmative action set-aside contracts.

So he makes his wife the "owner" of the company. If his wife is non-white, even better (2 extra points).

White guy still benefits in the end.

just 2 cent from me! i think u dont need to be any particulr color to be a visible minority! I feel like a minority when im in places where its all white people. But i also feel like a minority when im in chinatown too and im the only thai person mix with 100,000 chinese. So u can even be a minority if youre white or any color just depend on where u are!
OH, you must have been in that tiny dim sum place at dundas and spadina.........

Is it just me or whenever a street passes through a predominantly asian area the traffic grinds to a halt? I was travelling along dundas all summer and you'd be tooling along at 55 kph and hit chinatown and bam, stop dead.

Jasmine: I SO know what you mean. I was working in Atlanta GA one time and on my day off I went over to a best buy. As I was talking to my boss on my cellphone in the parking lot, I noticed that there weren't any white people around. I know Atlanta is predominantly black so I didn't think anything of it.

When I went into the store a sales guy immediately asked if he could help me. I said, no thanks, just checking things out....so he proceeded to follow me everywhere. He finally came up to me and said "you're not from around here are you"? I said "no, I'm from Canada" he said "please don't take this the wrong way, but it isn't safe for you around here". I said "huh, oh ok" he then walked me out of the store and watched while I got into my rental car. Waved to me as I drove off.

I later told this to some of the local guys I was working with and they said "what, you went WHERE??, hell, we don't even go down there..."

So yeah, on the drive back east (downtown) I noticed not one other white person around.....

I think more so now than hiring the best candidate for the job, whether one is white, black, asian, female or whatever is who you KNOW. It was bad when I was in the corporate world 10 yrs ago I can only imagine what it is like now.

For eg: I applied for a marketing job and was fully qualified for it. I didn't get it. The guy who did had recently garduated from Western with a degree in History. NO business whatsoever (I worked with one of his buddies). I was told that his mentor was one of the Marketing VP's....and yeah, within a year he'd moved up 3 positions to management.

It used to be if you were: black, female and handicapped, you'd be a shoe in for the job. Qualified or not.

Secretary of some sort at a customs office.
A lot of government job openings have a minorities first stipulation to them. Check out the police, OPP and RCMP for example, they are always LOOKING for visible minorities.

Just go to a Judaica store and buy a fancy yarmulkah (a skullcap), call yourself a visible minority, and if you get the job, wear the yarmulkak for a week, then stop wearing it and explain that you've decided to convert (to whatever you were). They can't fire you for that.

Sure does...now I'm wondering why 15% of the population has the advantage of preferred consideration for these jobs...is the tail wagging the dog?
