Political Consultant Sentenced for Scheme Involving Illegal Foreign Campaign Contribution to 2016 Presidential Campaign
A Texas man was sentenced today to 18 months in prison for his role in funneling illegal foreign campaign contributions from a Russian national to a 2016 presidential campaign.
According to court documents, Jessie R. Benton, 45, of The Woodlands, schemed with another political advisor to funnel political contributions to a 2016 presidential campaign from a Russian national seeking to meet and take a picture with the presidential candidate.
Benton arranged for the Russian national – whose nationality Benton concealed from the campaign and the candidate – to attend a campaign fundraising event and to take a picture with the candidate.
As such attendance and engagement required a contribution, Benton caused the Russian national to wire $100,000 to Benton’s political consulting firm to make an illegal foreign contribution to the campaign.
To disguise the scheme, Benton created a fake invoice, which falsely identified the funds as payment for consulting services.
Benton acted as a straw donor and contributed $25,000 of the Russian national’s money to the campaign, falsely identified himself as the contributor, and pocketed the remaining $75,000.
I thought all the right wingers have given up on rump already and are thinking about DeSantis now instead.IMHO, both Biden and Trump, have a lot of faults. In the 2020 election, Biden won approx 81 million votes. Trump won approx 74 million votes. Therefore approx 74 million US citizens wanted Trump to be president. That's no small number. I personally don't think Trump is dumb, at all. Trump is very charismatic, as a matter, of fact.
As far as Putin goes, Biden has been a disaster. IMHO, Trump couldn't have done any worse, as far, as handling Putin goes!!

This has also been fully documented in Dominion's court case against Fox and Trump's pets like Hannity, Ingraham, and Tucker Carlson!!

Sorry, I don't really care. All politicians get into scandals. Including Justin Trudeau, as mentioned upthread. IMHO, if Biden runs in 2024, he'll be the president, for a second term. However, if Biden suffers some health issues, and can't run in 2024, then all bets are off. The Dems will have trouble coming up with another suitable candidate. Therefore, Trump might have a chance to be the US president in 2024!!

Could be, but Trump has that albatross around his neck, and that is concerning to the Republicans who know that only DeSantis has a chance of winning the next 2024 elections.
However, he has an uphill chance to take out Trump in the GOP Nominations!!
Trump's chances in the 2024 Elections are slim. No doubt that he has a very loyal base who believe all his lies etc. But I think that DeSantis could take him out, as the more recent polls indicate. However, more recently DeSantis has been trying to appeal to the Trump base with some other very extreme rhetoric. That will not appeal to the swing voters, and may even push some more moderate Republicans away from him!!
Biden trumps Trump as far as Opinion polls outside America are concerned. That is why all of us that live outside the USA do want Biden and / or the Democrats to be re-elected in 2024.:

I will admit Butterball Don did get a lot of votes. I believe it was the igniting of the democratic base to oust the turd that won the Dems the election. Then you have his own whining about mail fraud that kept the Repugs from taking advantage of mail in voting.
As for Putin invading Ukraine under Trump, I'm not sure he would have as Trump was slowly taking Nato apart. Butterball Don was Putin's turkey. On several occasions, he had thrown out pulling the US out of Nato. Another term may have completely weakened Nato and then Putin could have easily gone in and taken Ukraine within a couple of weeks.
