Apparently a police officer confronted the suspect on the roof moments before the assassination attempt. Wouldn't your first instinct as a police officer be to shoot the suspect dead? And why wasn't he immediately on his radio warning armed suspect on the roof? This is getting more bizarre by the hour.
It's only getting more bizarre in your head because you, nor any of us, know the complete story.
When you climb up a ladder and poke your head up over the eave...to face an AR15 pointed at you, MY first instinct would be to DUCK and get out of the line of fire. He already has the draw on you. And your gun is probably holstered to climb the ladder. And it's pretty hard to make a good quick shot offhand on a ladder so the experienced cop would have abided by his training and good judgment to take cover before HE takes one to the head.
Could be that he DID make an immediate radio call and that's how whichever sniper took him out knew where to look. Or maybe he didn't have time or a free hand to make an immediate radio call while he was trying to get down the ladder and take cover.
Or maybe there was a systemic fuckup and the local PD, FBI and SS were working on different radio frequencies for different sectors and there was a, or a few, people in the command center coordinating the various assets and sectors. If there were 50 LE officers (locl, state, FBI and SS) at a minimum, they can't all be on the same frequency on two way radios. Unlike a phone, most of these radios are simplex, meaning that you can only have one transmission broadcast at a time. Otherwise you "step on" the first transmission and nothing gets heard.
None of us know until it is all patched together in a timeline. Like the NTSB does with aviation accidents.
Having said that... my PURE speculation from all that I have heard, seen and read is that this was a disaffected kid who was outcast by bullies, and
maybe frustrated with Trump and MAGA-types who decided to end his life in a blaze of glory.
I'd also say that the SS and local LE had risk homeostasis and this was just another of the hundreds of Trump Rallies with his supporters so their security may have been more routine and perfunctory.
I'm far less inclined to think that this was some organized operation where all the cops and SS were deliberately ignoring the guy and giving him a free shot because he was planted as a stooge. If a professional team was inclined, anyone can be taken out by a sniper. In the hands of an reasonably trained shooter, a 50 cal MacMillan can reliably hit and kill a man wearing body armour from one kilometer away. It''s impossible to protect out that far.
Not to say not to have the coversation or to speculate. Our forum means absolutely nothing so we can shoot the shit all we want.
