The Sun appeals mostly to Archie Bunker types, and Archie Bunker types don't read. That's not a sustainable business model.

They carried Scary Gary which was an amusing comic strip. I mean no Dilbert or Far Side, but I enjoyed it.
I used to get free Sun papers from a co-worker during and the weekdays and bought it sometimes on Sundays to read in the sauna. There was a doctor in the Sunday edition that recommended massive amounts of vitamin C and Lysine to clear arteries and help cure arthritis. I read all the other papers(Globe, Star, National Post). On Saturdays I also read the Wall Street Journal and FT Weekend. I used to get the Wall Street Journal on Saturdays for the wrong price of $ 2.00 instead of the proper price of $ 7.15. That lasted for 10 or 15 years(way back it was wrongly priced at $ 1.00) and about a year ago the store stopped carrying it.

Yesterday's world was much slower from a news perspective as when events happened you would get the first glimpse on the evening news and had to wait until the following morning to read about those events in greater detail in newsprint. Kind of hard to believe that now in today's world of instant social media.
I liked the fact that the local newspapers had their own editorial slant as you were able to read about the same topic through a different lens. Toronto/Ontario newsprint would have been boring without having a Star and Sun (not excluding the Globe and others).
I grew up outside of the GTA and my dad always bought the Star. The Saturday edition was great as it had so many different sections , the TV guide and color comics.
When I moved to the city and took the subway to work I liked the Sun because it had a great sports section and was much easier to read on the train and juggle a coffee at the same time.
End of era as newsprint is just too slow to meet today's demand for instant access to what is happening.

Back in the day, Monday's Toronto Sun was good, because the sports section had ads for all the featured dancers at strip clubs that week.
