I feel sorry for Phil Kessel, he was brought into an impossible situation not of his doing. The Kessel trade set back the Leafs two years of futures development. The Leafs talent pool was strip mined clean of all prospects when he got here. Better to trade him now for prospects, with a contending team he will thrive.

Richard Peddie: Companion of the Order of Canada. How sweet is that!

Can anyone say dreaming in Technicolour- Kessel is close to worthless now. The Leafs will have to carry a large part of his salary to anyone stupid enough to want him.

Technicolour, try 3D.

The bunch of fucking Nimrods can't even lose properly, the Oilers win was costly. According to probability every win now, means 1.5 loses next, the Nimrods wont make the playoffs until 2017 - 18, the earliest. Kessel needs to leave NOW with the Nimrods eating part of his salary. And by extension so does Nonis, why is Shanahan stalling? Important decisions need to be made about the Nimrods future and they can't be made by a lame duck GM.

Richard Peddie for Prime Minister.

Interesting report on the Score, Shanahan has received permission to blow up the club and start over. He's been given 3 to 5 yrs. to make it work. Core players include Reilly, Kadri, Bernier, Gardiner, JVR and Nylander everyone else including Phaneuf and Kessel will be dealt at some point. Shanahan will concentrate on stockpiling draft picks and young prospects. Will be interesting to say the least. Main project for now is to dump salary and clear cap space.

I'm not buying the Shanahan messiah story. He has zero GM experience and has done nothing positive for the team so far. An interview for "The Globe" today suggested he needed permission from the board to change the team. So be it. MLSE will have to buy out, at least partially, three major contracts. Kessel 64 million, Phaneuf 49 million, and Clarkson 34 million. To buy out Clarkson's contract 34 million is "the hard number" based on how the morons at MLSE structured the deal. Hopefully, we can lure a respected assistant GM from a winning franchise like Detroit, LA or Chicago, cause Shanny is not a GM. I still don't understand how despite having the biggest scouting team in the NHL, we still can't choose decent draft picks or find talent in corners where no one else is looking. I will never trash the players in this game, they have had to work hard, endure injury both physical and psychological to get where they are. The Leafs organization has been one big clusterfuck from Ballard on. As Steve Stavros once said when Gretsky wanted to finish his career in Toronto : Oh Yeah? how many more seats will he fill? ". ACC sells out every year there is zero motivation for owners to change a thing.period.

May as well keep Kessel. Blow up and rebuild all else.
They're already paying for him, and it'll be pretty hard to replace his goals.
With a dozen new teammates he could be a new player.

In fairness you never said Leaf playoffs...lol
Perhaps Lupul will be ready for the playoffs after all. With someone else.
Good point.

Fairness aside, in reality I'm surprised anyone actually believed I was serious.

Whenever I see Kessel and Gardiner on the ice together, troubles seem to ensure. Gardiner has got to be the worse defence man in his own end in the entire league.

If you think I'm too hard on Gardiner, I'd like to know who you think is worse than him playing in his own zone.

Coach of the Year

In an unprecedented move, the coach of the year has been announced in February.

Randy Carlyle was the unanimous choice. How he had this team in a playoff position cannot be topped.

Are MLSE resurrecting Jimi Hendrix? They're standing next to a mountain attemting to chop it down with the back of their hand?

It's about fucking time. They invested in their scouting after The Teacher's sold their stake. It was threadbare under the Peddie regime. If true it will be a new experience, maybe the days of flukeing into the playoffs are over?

I am really surprised that they have not tried Gardiner as a winger yet. He can skate and clearly prefers to play in the offensive zone and in the defensive zone would be more useful covering the point than he is anywhere near the net.

I believe the reasons they haven't tried it because :

He can't play wing because 1) he's as soft as marsh mellow, and 2) he has no offensive finishing touches.

He can't play centre because 1) he has low hockey IQ, and 2) he can't win face offs.

The only attribute he brings is skating. Figure skating might suit him better.
