Wohoo! Leafs win!

Go Leafs Go!
Go Leafs Go!
Go Leafs Go!

Kind of felt like I was going to go on an one man parade around the ACC, but it's snowing outside. I think I will stay here in my pajamas instead. Besides, probably 100 people there parading anyways.

Yes! Leafs!

Only watched the 3rd period today, and one thing surprised me about Edmonton. I don't think they have a single player as good as Kessel, even with all their draft choices. I did not look at the stats, but looking at how they play, skill and shifty but what if they don't score and are a liability on defense, which means they got a team full of Tyler Bozaks.

Seems to me, the Leafs probably won't sink much lower. Even the Toronto Sun has resumed complaining about the coach. In the comments section, some wise-ass refer to him as coach Horrorcheck. That's bad.

It was nice to see the Leafs win, but at the same time it was sad, because we know this team will be dismantled. It just was not good enough. For whatever reason, it just did not happen.

The Leafs best young forwards are Kadri and Holland, look who got the points tonight, and played well both ends of the ice. The Leafs best young defense men are Gardiner, Riley and Percy. The rest of the team, mostly around 26 to 28, not that old either. Changes will be made but cannot get rid of everybody.

A new coach.
A center.
Clear cap space.

That seems to be what Leafs management have to do.

Which is why the people that say "blow up" the team for draft picks are taking a risky approach.

It needs to be a balanced approach through drafting, trading and free agents. Look at Edmonton. Sooo many high picks and they are still crap for sooo long.
You know- I was listening to the radio the other day...

Did you know that Toronto has the most scouts in the nhl?

Apparently we do
What an epic failure of a staff...
I was cheering for them to lose tonight. But you're right. Tanking provides no guarantee- especially considering the track record the leafs have....

Well not a bad night, better then I expected.
I am not disappointed the Leafs won. It is strange I am happy whatever the result ... as long as they do not win too often from here to the end.
Now tonight's results put the Leafs a spot further from the goal(lowest possible finish), but what are you going to do.

Let us have a look at the games 'of significance'.

Columbus at Ottawa 7:00 PM . . . Columbus 4-1. . No point for the Sens but I am not complaining.

Dallas at Buffalo 7:00 PM . . . Buffalo won again ! ! 3-2

Edmonton at Toronto 7:00 PM . . . . . Leafs win 5-1.

New Jersey at Montreal 7:00 PM . . Montreal wins 6-2. Oops, damn.

Detroit at Arizona 8:00 PM . . . Detroit 3-1.

Carolina at San Jose 10:30 PM . . . Canes 5-4 !

Last night's game.

Leafs finally win, end losing skid at 11.
What a goal by Rielly, end to end then goes shelf.
Like Santorelli's goal too. Clank and in.

Still want McDavid on the Leafs, would settle for Strome, but whatever happens the Leafs need to rebuild around the best young players they can get.
No guarantee in the draft, but in years where there is a McDavid it is as close as you can get.
Looking at the Oiler drafts, it was such bad luck that the Oilers had those top picks in not such great draft years, although I still think Hall will blossom at some point.
They missed Tavares by one year. In '09 when JT went first, the Oilers picked 10th then first three years in a row, then seventh the year McKinnon went first overall.

I think toronto should rebuild and offer Kessel to Dallas for Seguin and one of their young defenceman with potential.

Dave Clarkson another healthy scratch for this evening. Signed to $5 million a year by morons. Management has proven their incompetency year in year out. Sign a lightweight to a heavy duty contract, making him un-tradable. Goodbye cap space. I don't blame Dave Clarkson, he is a competent 4th liner, who can give you some grit.
I heard last week they are paying Phaneuf the same salary LA pays Drew Doughty. Fuck me! I don't blame Phaneuf, he can't rise to the level of Doughty. But now he's untradable and the cap space is fucked.

I feel sorry for Phil Kessel, he was brought into an impossible situation not of his doing. The Kessel trade set back the Leafs two years of futures development. The Leafs talent pool was strip mined clean of all prospects when he got here. Better to trade him now for prospects, with a contending team he will thrive.

Leafs made it interesting, but lose in the end.
Reimer was good, or should I say 'just ok'. :thumb:
Top line was absent yet again which in the overall scheme of things is alright.
Rielly with two sniper like goals. Watching this kid play and develop, then reading the comment of at least one moron on this site that the kid is a bust. You have to laugh at them sometimes.

In other good news around the league.
Ottawa over Buffalo 2-1. A Sabre win would have been better and a Sabre win in OT would have been best but I will take the Senators win. This game was a cannot lose for Leaf Nation.

on four of the ranger goals- there were weak-ass-one-handed-checking going on. how about knocking the guy with the puck on his ass? or actually trying to push them off the puck and using two hands on your stick? on one goal the defence tried to clear the puck through their own slot and again it was a weak shot- I have seen timbit players put more oompf on the puck than some of these defencemen.

thank god we lost though. I am worried the players will try and win some games to finish just out of the playoffs- they will do it to spite the fans.

Remember Nick Beverley. I forgot all about him, until read his comments in papers when Pat Burns died.

When Cliff Flechter fired Pats Burns, because the team quit on their coach, Nick Beverley was made the interim coach. The team was declining, but still good enough to make the playoffs.

That is all I remember of Nick Beverley, is what he said in the playoffs, that is his fame as a Leafs coach.

After one really bad game, coach Beverley exploded and said "THEY PLAYED LIKE NIMRODS".

It was all over the papers. Coach: "Leafs played like NIMRODS!"
http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/nimrod
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nimrod

My favourite part of this episode was when the reporters asked what did goalie Felix Potvin think of the coach calling his team of nimrods, Felix the Cat looked puzzled and admitted he cannot say because he did not know what a nimrod is. Everyone laughed.

Then the next day, after everyone calming down, the Leafs were still in the series, and coach Beverley knowing the ruckus caused by the nimrods remarks, boldly declared the next game to be "Guarantee Win Night".

So again, it was all over the papers: coach Beverley claims game # will be "Guarantee Win Night"!

Guess what, the Leafs won that game, and everyone got to breath, but of course went on the lose the series to St. Loius, which was expected for a bunch of nimrods.

I do not remember if Shanahan was playing for St. Louis at that time. What irony if he was.

Coach Peter Horacheck, after another loss at home, another brutal effort by this team, now only 2-12 under his watch, in the post game press conference, out of anger and frustration blurted out,: "But with the whole the give a shit meter has to be higher. Can I say that here?”

And with those comments " the give a shit meter has to be higher.”, Peter Horacheck has immortalized himself in Maples Leafs lore.

In fact, that line is so good, it probably is right up there for coaching outbursts.

No one is ever to forget this. Clearly much better than the "Just Okay" remarks one night in Detroit by his predecessor. Who thought a bad team could be this entertaining, but that is the Maple Leafs organization.

Yes!

Leafs!

Go Leafs Go!
Go Leafs Go!
Go Leafs Go!
