Leafs win. Five in a row!

Out shot again, but I do not think the Leafs got out chanced. If they did, they already had a 2 or 3 goal lead at the time. Not many rebounds or wild scrambles in front of the Leafs net.

I kind of like watching Gardiner and Reilly play as a pair. It is fun to watch when both jump up to lead the rush. You do not see that happen much. Almost never.

Seems to me lately, even during that four game losing streak, the Leafs defense was never shy about jumping into the rush. Guess they have the confidence that the forwards will be backing them up.

Objectively speaking, the Leafs are not giving up too many odd man rushes as it is.

Carlyle finally has his stay at home defense man in Gleason. Gleason does not seem to be able to cover a lot of ice like the other Leafs defenders, but he reads the play well and is always in position in his own zone while taking the body at the same time.

Veteran D and a couple of youngsters. This is not a bad defense.

I'd like to believe they can bounce back, but they have to raise their intensity level like they did in the Washington game. They didn't win but I thought it was their best game in a long while. Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come.
The Washington game was indeed the turnaround game as they've won five in a row since. I especially liked how they started the game and you could sense they were going to have a good game. Bernier was both good and lucky (3 ding-and-outs behind him). I guess when you're playing well you're entitled to some luck too.

The part of game that's very frustrating to watch is the turnovers. Understand with the no clutch-and-hold rules the forwards can go in forechecking much faster and harder, and that forces defence men into a lot more mistakes and make it harder to hold leads. You see that across the league, but the troubling part for the Leafs is that they (Franson and Gardiner in particular ) turn the puck over because of " lackadaisical between the ears" as Carlyle put it in the post game comments, although he was more or less referring to the Kadri mistake. I guess it's part of the growing pain as the Leafs are one of the younger teams in the league. The toughest part of the road trip will start tomorrow in Colorado. They have to keep the intensity level up and hope luck will continue to side with them

Five in a row and they are still in the middle of the pack. The four game lod=sing streak sure hurt.

In the next 7 games they will play against Olympic goalies.

Lately they have cost me. I bet them every game during their recent 4 game losing streak. But earlier in the year when they were winning I won some. I actually do a lot better with college football and soccer.
If I were a betting man I'd be very tempted to put money against the Leafs tonight in Colorado. 2nd on a back-to-back on a long road trip to high latitude country, and the laws of average tip towards a bad loss after a 5 game win streak. Reimer will probably start and he hasn't played much lately.

I am very happy with the results(not just wins) over the past five, six games. The Leafs have put a bit of a cushion between themselves and the two WC spot.
Franson, Gardiner, Kadri, Gunnarsson there is always room to improve. The team could still use a top center man.
Bernier is getting better with each game. The best trade Nonis has made so far in my opinion.

Colorado will be tough tonight. It seems as though everything is pointing toward a loss, back to back, a young team playing very well, on the road ... if it gets to OT it will be a minor victory for the Leafs.
Over all if the Leafs come away with 4-5 points it will be a satisfactory road trip.

Against all odds, Leafs won another one and its now 6 in a row. I'm happy to admit that I suck in predictions.

All you need is stellar goaltending and a dominating first line and you can string a few together. A bit of luck also helps. BTW, has there been a more exciting and entertaining player to watch than Kessel in this streak ? His blazing speed and scoring touches are just so wonderful to watch when he's on his game.

Leafs win. Six in a row!

The big line scores a couple of goals. The penalty killing two big kills early then score on the power play. Timely saves by Riemer. All three lines were solid. Leafs playing good hockey right now.

Going to rant again about the stupid media. In hindsight, they are stupid. But what can we expect.

After that out door game, the players were on a high. The next game was like Monday morning at work with a brutal meeting with your boss after a good weekend. They weren't ready to play and it showed getting smoked by the Rangers. They had a bad game in Carolina, but the two other games they loss in that 4 game losing streak before this 6 game winning streak, they went into the third period tied, and could not finish. After those 4 games, the media prints they are going to fire the coach. The media sucks! That's why they are the media! Because they suck!

As for the game, Lupul has been a force out there, in both ends of the ice. He was not as flashy as Kessel, but good plays by Lupul, being strong on the puck along boards leads to 2 goals for the team and 2 assists for himself. Kadri was okay I thought. Steady. Better in the defensive part. We don't notice him as much, which probably is good, as the other team won't get a chance, and Kadri's skill level will show up sooner or later. I think he has scored in two straight games. That Brodie looks good. Colorado has some very good looking young players.

This is the difficulty for the opposing team facing the Leafs. The Leafs can score, but it is tough to score against the Leafs. If you can break through, the goalie is not bad Riemer or Bernie. On this road trip, they allowed a power play goal, in Phoenix. Then the other three goals, a giveaway for a short handed goal, and bad line change for the first Colorado goal, and a strange spinning pirouette giveaway by Gardiner for the second goal.

The point is ... without these mental black outs like a drunken stupor, the other team is finding it exceedingly hard to score. Even the 3 goals by Montreal before the road trip where not pretty goals, more like broken plays.

If the Leafs can play good defensively, then their goal tending and scoring up front is going to be the difference in a lot of games.

Guess that is the plan eh?

The Leafs seem to reflect their team's star ... Streaky ... Kessel is friggin hot right now and so are the Leafs ... I think Kessel missed his buddy Bozak more then we thought .. Go Leafs Go

Kessel is hot right now as others have said. When he is going he is something to see.
Nice pass from Phaneuf on the first goal.

Looking at Leaf road games for ticket prices, damn I got to make my way to NY or Fla.

Streaks seem to be a common theme in this NHL season ... Teams seem to take turns being Hot ...

Ugly! Thank god I didn't bet the leafs tonight. 6-1 still in the second, I can't see the game just checking the scores on my phone, looks like neither leaf net minder can stop a beachball tonight. Only 18 shots on goal and 6 have gone in. Game not over but I'm assuming the buds are just not having a good night.

The sens got a point as TB won in a shootout. I saw this one coming for sure, a real stinker by the Leafs. Winnipeg will be even tougher as Paul Maurice (former Leafs coach) has the Jets on a 4 game win streak. If the Leafs finish with 4 out of 8 points on this trip, i would be an ok Western road trip. But a trip to death valley awaits for the Leafs in March as they head into sunny California to play the KINGS, SHARKS and DUCKS who only lost 3 games at home this season.

Not good at all. Sort of glad I have to work in the morning, gives me an excuse to call it a night after two periods. Only luck for Toronto is NYR, Isles, and Flyers all lost tonight. Sens are currently losing.
Unsure why RC pulled Bernier on only 3 goals. Guess it was to spark the club, but it was a double fail. Reimer cold was really bad, while starting the forth line after the goalie pull led to Orr in the box. I like Orr a lot, but he is playing a meatball game tonight, and hardly providing any energy. All he has done is made two trips to the penalty box. Gardiner is coughing up pucks terrible and Phaneuf is looking really tired.

Dallas is very fast, I guess the big hope was matching speed and speed to just have a wide open game.
That Columbus team is quietly creeping up on everybody, and they've been doing it without Gaborik.

Leafs stunk the joint out!

So pissed off!

Guess that happens once in a while, this team tired as shit! They played like it.

All night, it was like all the players were a half step behind. After that Saturday night game Hockey Night in Canada against Montreal, then travel across the continent for two games in two night, or in other words, 3 games in 4 nights, which the Leafs won convincingly. Then travel again for another game which is 4 games in 6 nights, the team looked flat. What was kind of funny was the expression on Carlyle's face, like it was confused, a little panicky, and exasperated. Even he was too tired to get wound up, and he's always wound up.

Next game, the team will be ready, as a few players are from western Canada and they look forward to this game in Winnipeg on Hockey Night in Canada. As long as the team can rest, they should win this game.

why does Carlyle continue to play that big stiff orr? he must owe him something fierce. let that bodie kid take his spot, nothing but upside, imho. also why does KADRI never stand up for himself when someone lays him out, or challenges him to fight? all I have seen him do is swing his stick like sam sosa trying to go yard, thurs against dallas for example. he tried the same thing with that kid from Columbus, and got drilled for that one. and just a slight off topic,is it just me, or does anyone else feel that ray ferraro needs a punch in the ear? he never, ever shuts up! and give that greg millen a slap while your at it. sorry for the rant, lol!
