Is it just me or did I recall reading in the papers that it's a real burden and a negative to have a lame duck coach ( a coach with a contract for only one year left ) coaching your team ? It seems to me this this team has not preformed any better after they gave their coach a contract extension .

So now they can evaluate Wilson at season's end without wondering whether the lame duck status was a factor.

Brian Burke is a sensitive boss. He doesn't want to hurt his players' feelings. After all, they're only making $millions per year.

Can Dion Phaneuf even hit the net with a shot anymore?
It is amazing!
He cannot hit the net!

It's okay cause he ended last year very well and started this season well so I would give him another extension . Isn't that the criteria of MLSE . You see they fired my Raptors coach for doing the same thing Wilson did .

I think there is only one criterion this year. It starts with "p" and ends with "layoffs".

- Hmmm .... when was the last time the Leafs choke like this? The puck is being handled like the proverbial hot potato. Probably have to go back a couple of generations. Weak minded millionaires.

- "Fire Wilson!!!", that's what the crowd was chanting. Therefore, he won't get fired. You got to wonder what is going on. Burke wants Wilson to start Riemer. Since Gustavsson is probably the better goalie, there's a built-in excuse. Now the hockey experts in the stands know more than Brain Burke, esquire? Remember Harold Ballard? At least he got one thing right. Don't let the inmates run the asylum. And who is more stubborn than GM Burke?

- I don't think they should fire Wilson. Firing Wison, won't solve the Leafs problems, which comes back to not enough talent up front, and in goal. And tonight on defense. Scheen and Komersirik, off the glass and out, stay between your man and the net. They couldn't do it.

- Another way of looking at it, consider these players, Connolley, Lupal, Lombardi, Steckle, even Mike Brown. McArthur too. Basically these players other teams gave up on. Burke got lucky with Lupal, MaArthur has been decent, and Brown okay on the 4th line. Half of your forwards were rejects from other teams. Was there no one in the Leafs farm system that could play a role here? Either you believe Burke is a dumbass, or after John Fergerson Jr, the cupboard was that bare.

- The Leafs won't make the playoffs. That what I learned here. Whoever makes that 8th spot, is not a good team. Bet against them in the first round against the Rangers, that the Rangers will win that series by 2 games at least.

Ferguson's Leafs were better than Burke's

I prefer the high priced free agents than overrated draft picks like Luke Schenn who cannot skate. I YAAWN !!, watching American Kessel who I don't give a damn if he scores 80 goals. Having Canadian content like Wendel Clarke, Brendan Shannahan, Mark Messier are much more appealing, win or lose. Please Rogers/Bell get rid of Burke and Wilson a.s.a.p.

Maybe they should stop these lame pregame ceremonies (Sundin and 62 Leafs), they lost both games, see a trend happening here.
You have my vote wholeheartedly.

So now they can evaluate Wilson at season's end without wondering whether the lame duck status was a factor.
The extension was just so he does not have that 'lame duck' status. Yes it matters.
Giving him a year is nothing, pocket change for the Leafs, and they can eat that and not even notice it on the bottom line. I do think he is done at season's end. He is not a bad coach I have learned, and have come to respect him. I still do not like him, but I love the way he handles the media, who think they know hockey(lol).

Furthermore, it Is a good thing guys like Rockslinger and Doot(et al) have absolutely nothing to do with the Leafs. They(the Leafs) would be so much worse off then they are now. Schenn would look so much better in a different situation. In the fish bowl that comes with playing here the organization should have realized that here, more then anywhere else, a kid like Schenn should have played at least one season in the minors.
Same thing with Gustavsson. He should have at least played a couple of months with the Marlies. I still do not understand two untested goalies making NHL debuts or with less then 100 games experience.

Burke has finally got this team to where it should have been when a new GM comes in. If anything he has earned more time to see what he can do for at least three more years. If my info is correct, Burke is under contract until the end of 2013/14.

Dolt

Phil Kessel was a 'high priced free agent'.
Who cares what his passport says?

Brendan Shanahan is American*.

*Dual citizenship, as do many players/management in hockey, Steve Yzerman, Ron Wilson, Scotty Bowman for 3 more examples.
