Why is it that they can't come up with an original idea.

Here we go again with the whole parallel universe storyline. (Though the chubby little ensign definitely looks better as the sweet marie type blonde.)
Was thinking the same thing... wasn't there an original series episode where Spock wanted to kill Kirk in a chaotic parallel universe... then ad a Star Wars emperor element... now it's getting whackey.. but I still watch.

The Klingons can change form at will as they are actually Changelings in RL. I thought we all knew this.

CBS made a large investment in this current series, it's paid off big with the subscriptions it brought in for CBS Access in the States. Imho, this is the best series since ST:TNG, as long as they don't do something stupid they can easily milk it for 5 seasons. They might kill off Captain Lorca, that would be a major mistake. Jason Isaacs brings an edge to the show that no other actor in the cast can bring.

It's nice that Doug Jones (Commander Saru) is finally getting lines, maybe Guillermo Del Toro will give him some in future projects. He's the dude top middle.

MmmmmMm looove dem Klingons.

For those of you who thought another parallel universe was warmed over leftovers, think again. This new series is about Klingon evolution, ST:TNG gave us an incomplete picture. The series gave us their ideals and warrior code but it didn't give us their instincts or idiom. This series is going to get a lot more fascinating from now on.

Potential spoiler, notice that the Romulans are conspicuous by their absence. I wonder who will be their First Council?

I'm pretty sure that they just used Doug's voice instead of David Hyde Pierce's in the second Hellboy movie.

I have to agree; Lorca is the most compelling Trek captain I've seen. I like that he's more morally ambiguous/flexible than previous captains.

So I've been watching the new Star Trek.

The verdict is still out, but it looks like they are changing the whole canon of Trek yet again.

But now most of all, the Klingons are now version 3.

Version 1 were just guys with black face and silvery boy scout uniforms.

Version 2 premiered with the first star Trek movie with the whole armoured head and dragon teeth lok.

Version 3, well, we're back to black face and a very different look altogether again.

Is nothing sacred?
I liked the Next Generation version the best

Haven't seen Hellboy 2 yet.

I loved ST:TNG but it got off to a shaky start. S1 was tepid and CBS was considering cancelling the show and starting again. Conspiracy shocked the hell out of viewers allowing for a stay of execution. The writing didn't really take off until S3, it became a runaway success after that. CBS nearlly cut off their nose to spite their face.

I have a strong hunch that Michael Shannon will make an appearance on the current show.

Too much drama on the new Star Trek. And I don't even know the names of the characters yet. Actually that's not quite true. I know a few - but only a few.

I just wonder why these studios have to make shows that are poltically correct and promote modern day values - why not just make a fucking show that is entertaining? After all it is a goddamn business...
I agree 100 percent. I just don't watch this P.C. crap anymore. There is so much quality cable shows. The network shows arent even worth trying.

Question to Game of Thrones fans.

Couldn't they have made Ramsey Bolton's death a little less brutal?

CBS Access is raking it in on this series. My name is Lorca, Gabriel Lorca.

Each Trek Captain has their own distinct personality:

Captain Kirk - Errol Flynn
Captain Picard - Thespian Eisenhower.
Captain Janeway - homespun Semiramide.
Captain Lorca - License to Kill

I'm loving this new Star Trek Discovery! That's one hell of a plot twist - episode 12 - Didn't see that coming.

^^^ I wonder why they didn't let him go with his natural British accent rather than adopt an American accent (which he's pretty good at).

Me either and I'm still trying to figure out exactly when the switcheroo occurred.

Same here, the ending of E13 left me stunned, obviously Admiral Cornwell had figured it out. There are two more episodes left in Season 1b, I have no idea what happens next.

Yes, that episode where he coldly and calculatingly (that's not really a word is it) declined to mount a rescue mission would lend credence to the idea that the switch occurred a long time ago. In a way, Lorca II from the Terran Empire is exactly the commander you would need to defeat the (new) Klingons. (I'm still not liking the new Klingons.)

I am loving this new series.

The Klingons were a little hard to swallow at the beginning but they have grown on me. At least the look of them. Kind of. I am not all the way there yet, but close.

My question is, is the other Lorca dead? They did show how he got to "our" universe. When being chased and hit by lightning in that nebula thing? That was when he got to our universe, but where did "our" Lorca go. Was it a total swap so then "our" Lorca died in that chase????

It comes on a 10pm, and I sometimes just wiped right out but I stay up. I will have to go back and watch the last episode again to see that part.
