the new Toronto

I thought this would be a good time to make my first post. I've been lurking around here for a month.
I think that whether or not Toronto would be a better city with or without immigrants is unprovable either way.
No one can even come close to theorizing what Toronto would be like without immigrants. There are just too many variables and unknowns to take into account.
This debate is pointless, and I'm sure there are some people who are offended.
But I like lively conversations, so I thought I would add my opinion.

I was extremely curious to see what the reaction would be when I read this topic in the Star. I figured that it might go exactly like this.
For all you really nice Europeans out there, please do not be offended that the "non europeans" are so vocal. The problem is that there is a large %age of "europeans" who are closet racist. They are not card carrying KKK members, but when they get together in their little groups they do talk. And when the talk comes around to other races, you would be surprised at what you hear.
Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned that almost every race shows some form of racism towards some other race. I would venture to say that every race exhibits some form of racism against some other race, often they are age old disputes. It's pretty sad....
Recently, my brother brought home a girl from a certain race.... after my brother and his girlfriend left, my mother made some remarks. When I challenged her on it, she said "i don't have any problems, but I just don't want one in the family".....

I'm not attacking white people. But I agree. If someone were to make a similar comment against minorities the race card would be pulled. I don't deny the fact that I think that the race card is over used. But I don't think that being happy that one group loses their majority status is being racist. Being a minority I'd like to see more minorities up to the point where there is not one dominant group.
PS yes Canada would probably still be great without minorities, but something anglos can never be proud of is how marginalized our natives are. Quite sad. Many third world nations live better then their Reservation Camps.

slowandeasy, you think Europeans talk racist? I think every group does. People equate racism with white people and the KKK. At my work its mostly minorities and fellow South Americans criticize me for being friendly to this one lonely white guy there. Up to the point they got angry that I invited him to our table during a summer picnic event. They all like talking spanish and love to exclude any other racial groups and do say some pretty bad things at work in spanish about certain races. They even have problems with me thinking that I'm too liberal as others here have accused me. I don't have anything against white people but still think it would be great if they weren;t in such big numbers. I'd feel more comfortable livng here if that was the case.

Marco, I don't understand you... you make a great point, then you follow it up with something offensive. You seem to be a decent fellow, so might not realize how offensive this statement " I really like that East Indian guy, but I just with that so many of them did not move into our neighborhood" is when it's directed to any group of people....
