Trump and the GOP weren't shy in specifying how they wanted a woman to replace RBG - especially to have a woman on the court to overturn Roe.
HW Bush wanted a Black man specifically to replace Marshall.
Reagan promised a woman.
Eisenhower went looking specifically for a Catholic nominee.

Considering representation is the most fucking banal thing ever. When you have thousands and thousands of qualified candidates, you are free to narrow down your search in other ways.

This whole freakout is one of the most obvious "showing your whole ass" things the right can be doing.
