I don't think anyone thinks he deserved to die.

My take and my involvement on this thread is so that we can share some ideas and concepts to maybe get another child to not die too.

Well if that doesn't settle the question of your "blackness" what else will?

(Sorry, nothing personal... I just found the opportunity for a situational joke way too tempting to pass up.... Seriously, I'm sorry as you do indeed seem like a really great guy!)
I suppose I walked into that one lol

yes he was a "child" in the grand scheme of things...but he is old enough to not be able to hide behind that "I'm just a child" thing.

Nobody said he deserves it...we were just delving into how things get to this point

Isn't it amazing how we "responsible taxpayers" dump all over the young. For example, in regards to early childhood education Canada ranks just below Bulgaria. Then we complain when, as teenagers, they have gunfights in schoolyards or kill people with their cars.

To make responsible citizens of our children, we nurture them when they are pre-teens but as Canadians don't give a fuck. As long as we get our tax cuts we're not concerned about how our most vulnerable citizens are being raised. As long as they are good consumers everything else is superfluous. In the name of profit; we feed them junk food, bombard them with hyper-violent images and objectify them sexually.

I'm surprised that our children haven't killed us all.

So does Bulgaria have a problem with kids shooting each other at school?

PARENTS are responsible for early childhood education. I am not convinced that the solution is stuffing them into a classroom at an even earlier age.

we're not concerned about how our most vulnerable citizens are being raised.
We've thrown quite a lot of money at this problem and it hasn't helped. Why would more money help? I think it's time for a non-money solution, like holding people accountable.

I am all for spending money on schools. I just don't see a lack of money being the problem here.

A lack of proper discipline maybe yes the problem.

Exactly...

There is no respect for common decency.

There is no respect for rules or authority.

Parents are nowhere to be found.

Right a child who had the cognition to say that we could do without cops.

FUCK THAT SHIT.
He messed around with trouble, trouble found him.
No remorse on my part.

Did you mean to say he was gunned down on Yonge St?
Or gunned down at a young age? :p

I was thinking more about this strap idea, and it dawned on me. We absolutely do need to bring it back, but not just for the kids, for their parents too.

Kid gets into a fight in grade 3. Gets the strap. Mom comes in and whines that it's unfair to her kid / racist / whatever. So mom gets the strap too. It turns out there's no dad around, so the Vice Principal hunts the guy down, and he also gets the strap.

Bring back the strap!

I am only half joking.

Sorry Bella, he wasn't a child any longer. If you are old enough to hold a gun, you're not a child.....He didn't deserve to die but (and I do hate to say this) but better him than some innocent walking down the street or a kid who has NEVER been in trouble with the teachers/cops.....

I noticed in today's sun how there is going to be a citizen's inquest into his death and they will be holding an open inquiry at a local community centre. I'd love to show up and simply listen to all the bullshit. If I had any balls at all I'd go and when it was my turn at the mic say "ok, I've listened to all your whining, now how about owning up to YOUR part in youth violence? How about teaching your kids to a) follow the rules b) if you break the rules you pay a price c) don't break the law and most of all d) don't ever pick up, or be associated with anyone who has access to, a handgun.

Spare the Rod--Spoil the child, respect comes from discipline, I don't mean abuse but if we are going to stay so politically correct on issues the whole thing is not going to change

No one in their right mind would enter Jane and Finch wearing any kind of sheet.
