won't happen, 4th place is up for grabs now and your most hated London rivals Tottenham are the likely recipient of that CL spot. Everton may challenge, but Moyes has to some how show he can have successful back to back campaigns.the_big_E said:I cannot belive Thierry Henry has left Arsenal, I honestly thought he was a gunner for life...as an Arsenal fan this blows obviously because its another season of finishing 4th. And they'll probably slide. I guess the only positive is that they got 24 million euros for a 30 year old player. This is alright if they turn around and spend it, but they dont seem to purchase bonafide superstars in their prime, they always develop players. If they could somehow get Tevez, then I'd be pleased...
I guess that now it is official ...David Beckham 23 said:Henry has confirmed the move.
a left back is never going to make an impact? your joking? Ashley Cole is the only left back that can give Cristiano Ronaldo a hard time. Plus Ashley Cole has amazing pace on the flank, his ability to push up quickly and defend just as quickly was the reason why Arsenal has been consistant.the_big_E said:I wouldnt say they're done, and they can still get 4th...I mean Henry missed most of last season.
Ashley Cole was not a key player, he's a whiny little twat, and a left back is never going to make a big impact.
Vieira and Pires are the ones that hurt....also if Henry only went for 16mil, and Darren Bent is valued at 18mil, am I missing something with this picture??
never said they would fall from grace, but i'm being realistic when i say that the Gunner's chances for the title have continued to slip each year. They still have one MVP which is Wenger but once he does decide to leave.....it would be hard pressed not to say Arsenal would struggle to find a spot in Europe. And you say class players....outside of Fabregas and Gilberto, who on their team can actually be called World Class?the_big_E said:They will not fall that far from grace, they still have class players...they will definitely be out of the running for the premiership though, and probably wont go too deep into CL
However, the team has upside if anything...but I'd be sitting here lying if I didn't say it will be very difficult without Henry.
World class? Let's see; Ljunberg, captain of Sweden, Hleb captain of Belarus, Rosicky, captin of the Czech Republic. Toure one of the best central defenders in the world. Gallas a stalwart on the French team and van Persie a stalwart on the Dutch team. Also, Arsenal had the the highest representation of any club team at the last World Cup. In addition we have a lot of exciting youngsters that are getting better every year. If we finished 4th the last two years I can't see us dropping further.SneakyLB said:And you say class players....outside of Fabregas and Gilberto, who on their team can actually be called World Class?
Again, you'd have to hope Wenger doesn't leave just yet.
Agreed. Capello must stay. Diego of Werder Bremen would be just as if not more effective than Kaka and would be a lot cheaper.Von Wigglestaff said:Barca getting Henry was a bad move, they already have a younger faster version of the Frenchman in Eto'o. Since both can't be on the pitch at the same time one of them will be warming the bench.
I hope Real are stupid enough to (a) fire Capello and (b) pay 100 million Euros to Milan for Kaka. Berndt Schuster is a poor replacement for Capello and Kaka won't be as effective without Pirlo. If anyone still doubts Pirlo's pedigree, just ask Sheva if he misses him.
Arsenal is supposedly negotiating with Roma to acquire Alberto Aquilani. I hope this is just a rumour, Aquilani is one player I don not want to see leave Serie A. He's a blue chip prospect who'll develop into an exceptional playmaker, he wouldn't prosper in the tactically challenged Premiership.
You call Rosicky and Hleb world class? Ljungberg has passed his prime and it wasn't long ago he actually was on the verge of leaving the club, the only thing he's got going for him now is being a Calvin Klein underwear model. Also Hleb was a bad buy, he was no where close what he was.Big Michael said:World class? Let's see; Ljunberg, captain of Sweden, Hleb captain of Belarus, Rosicky, captin of the Czech Republic. Over the last 18 months Henry has not had a significant influence on the team due to injury and relatively poor form. As well too many Arsenal players were intimidated by him (see Reyes) and could not perform up to expectation. Henry leaving is going to open the door for the youngsters. That said we will miss him, he is an icon. Life goes on, our style will change and the transfer window is open for another 2 months. Henry left because Arsene wanted him to go, he would still be at Arsenal if it was best for the team.
Trust Arsene, He "Knows". He is very competitive and hates to lose. As for the fear mongering, he isn't going anywhere, he has a lot of young players that he wants to develop, he will be around to finish the project. He always waits for the last minute to re-sign.
Okay, got that off my chest, carry-on.
I don't see how its a bad move when you have 2 top quality strikers? How is it bad to continue to bring in the best players in the world? Henry is a superior player in dead ball situations, his dribbling is also better than Eto'o. Both have world class finishing but Eto'os pace is obviously much better. When you have two players like this how can you not be fear this team's attack? Of course both can be on the same pitch, its how you utilize them, Henry can play just slight outside of the box while Eto'o can push up further.Von Wigglestaff said:Barca getting Henry was a bad move, they already have a younger faster version of the Frenchman in Eto'o. Quite a lot to digest, I will take a few small chunks. Rosicky, definately world class, a lot of injuries and not fully settled into premiership. If you don't believe he is world class, you haven't seen him play enough. Hleb, does alot of great things on the pitch, didn't have a great year, needs to finish his chances, jury still out. Due to injuries and form, Henry has not played well for 18 months, and he 30 this year, I believe he still has 3 or 4 good years left, but the question was he going to deliver those at Arsenal? Wenger saw an opportunity to get some cash and he typically sells players while they still have something in their tank. Don't get me wrong, Henry is my favourite player (post Bergkamp), all my replica jerseys have his name on them, but I don't think his departure is all that bad, time will tell. Patrik Viera, same thing, he is done, getting lotsa injuries his form is no where near it was 4 years ago. As well, did Inter have any true competition in Italy? AC Milan had the deduction and Juve, as well, did Viera win it all by himself? give me a break.SneakyLB said:You call Rosicky and Hleb world class? You are not a very realistic Arsenal fan. Losing a long time Gunner, the man who has been a central figure to the Arsenal attack for many years, for crying out loud he was Wenger's favorite and he has stayed committed to the club on many occasions. You let Patrick Vieira go and he wins a Scudetto with Inter Milan, you let Ashley Cole go and he plays for a city rival, now you let your all time leading scorer go and you expect to be better? Give me a break, go read the comments Fabregas has made saying that he would be devastated if Henry leaves.
for you to say Henry left because Wenger wanted him to go means you are in denial. Patrick Vieira clearly said, "Be serious". If Ashley Cole, Patrick Vieira and Henry were all on the same team right now, do not think for one moment that is a Championship calibre team. Mix in with Toure, Gilberto, and Fabregas you have something going. Wenger took Henry under his wing since Monaco, it is when Dein left that really called for a change of guard.
Wenger has never bailed out of his contract and i believe he will still continue to do so, but you have no backing from the board, buying players you want as a manager is extremely difficult. As an Aston Villa fan i've had my frustrations with Doug Ellis, we've let a lot of quality players we could of brought in slip, so for Wenger he is faced with a tough task of keeping a competitive team as well as keeping the board happy. Arsenal are still in debt from the Wembley stadium change and don't expect them to go nuts buying players. Arsenal will regret letting another legend go, once you let Fabregas and Wenger leave, you are done.
I think you are another Arsenal fan in denial that losing Henry is not a big thing. Again, when wast the last time Arsenal has done anything significant? Oh that's right it was the CL when who else lead that team?Big Michael said:Quite a lot to digest, I will take a few small chunks. What you seem to forget is that Fabregas took Patrick's spot. If Viera stays, Fabregas doen't emerge. Ashley Cole, Chelsea can have him, the greedy, lying c**t. Debt from "Emirates" is manageable, Arsenal has the highest game day revenue in the EPL, developing Highbury location, and our debt is less than half of Manchester United's. Arsenal and Wenger are very conservative as well they will buy but only the right player at the right price. Wenger always has 40Mil to spend if he wants, he chooses not to. He has never requested a player and been turned down by the Board.
Don't believe the fear mongering in the British press. No one is irreplaceable. Behind Fabregas we have Diaby, Denilson, and Merida to play the creative central mid-field position. Hell we can even move Rosicky or Hleb off the wing and back to their original central mid-field position.
