Shocking! Got too cocky and paid for it, but he's clearly the vastly superior fighter. Silva is lucky Weidman didn't keep reigning huge blows while he was unconscious which could have done even more damage.

Not sure what to make of this since the better fighter screwed up his clean UFC record claims he doesn't want to fight for the belt when he could easily take it in a rematch. Silva was rightfully embarrassed and didn't know what to say nor what he was saying. But every time we watch the new champ fight, we'll know we're not seeing the best.

Nobody has ever been so brazen as Silva but lesson learned that even when you're the best, you can still lose, especially in MMA where all it takes is one shot. I predict he'll never be that cocky again in the octagon.

What was the payout on Weidman???? Would be interesting to find out...

$48k for Weidman, $600k for Silva. If Silva had won, he would have gotten a $200k bonus as well. Apparently they get a share of the PPV too.

Besides the unnecessary loss, Silva's body may pay for his antics. Many fighters are never the same after getting clocked, and Silva is already an older fighter at 38 years old.

Silva was being an a-hole hot dog and got bit. No need for the antics. He obviously underestimated Weidman and got shown up. He brushed off the first two taps at the end, but the third rolled his eyes back and the deck did the rest, followed by the flurry at the end. There were actually people at the bar that said it was fixed, sure.

It will be interesting to see the spin on this one, especially with 'GSP is ducking Silva' crowd.

Thanks, I meant the vegas odds.... stranger things have happened. He may have walked out with even more money that we don't know about. Anderson did come from Pride... it was pretty corrupt over there.

I don't think Silva lost on purpose. He was trying to psych Weidman out with his antics and underestimated his speed and punching power. He got caught and paid the price. A second fight would be very interesting. Weidman's got the belt now. He's the best. At least until a rematch. That said, Silva's skill in the ring is nothing short of remarkable.

Weidman was a 2.5 to 1 dog.

Silva by knockout. Something spectacular like a flying knee to the face.
Should have put "if he doesn't do that dance around shit."

You're exactly right. To even consider throwing a fight is ridiculous. The main reason fighters get in the ring is for the money. You think big names like Nike enjoy paying big bucks for a fighter introduced now as the 'Former Middle Weight Champ'? Doubt it.

By losing you make less, risk losing sponsors, and if ever you 'threw' a fight and were caught? You'd never fight again, or show your face.

Face it, Silva had done the same antics in the past on many fighters, and in the cases of Demian Maia and Forrest, utterly humiliated them. It was a tactic someone as blessed as Silva does not need to do.

I'm glad he lost, and sure hope he does fight Jon Jones and not Roy Jones Jr.
Hi there,

I'm going to disagree with you, Silva has proven himself as one of the greatest UFC/Pride fighters, if he really did have enough and because Dana wouldn't allow him other big pay days, I think he would risk making multiples on an undisclosed amount. As for the reason they fight, let's be honest, he's trained in a discipline, those teachings look poorly at taunting opponents. Seems to me he is clearly the superior fighter.... still is.

Wow, I did not expect Silva to get KO'd. That was first time ever he's been knocked out clean BTW.

He got arrogant and paid the price. Joe Rogan was spot on, you have to respect the sport and your opponent, or you will get punished

Silva deserved that fate for the simple fact he was showboating. C'mon man that was a disgrace.

Showboating, yes. A disgrace? Come on now. He didn't do anything more than what Muhammed Ali did quite a few times in his career. Ali is widely idolized. Let's not elevate the sport to some sort of noble level like saving people from burning buildings. Its entertainment and Silva is entertaining. He was mocking his opponent and he paid for it. You can claim with some credibility that Silva must have an inflated ego to do such a thing. You don't even have to like him.

Yeah, I like a little showboating. It makes MMA more interesting.

I like it even better when the showboater gets knocked out

What did he gain by doing that?
A long deserved rest, break from the spotlight. More time with the family instead of training and fulfilling UFC commitments?
