The TERB political section is probably not reflective of the broad Canadian population. Political sections of a lot of forums I peruse appear to be dominated by progressive activism. They're very vocal and very motivated types of people.

You can't really see it from the TERB political forum as it is today and the past two months. Progressives are dejected and/or maintaining somewhat lower profiles after the twin shocks of the Trump election and the Trudeau resignation.

Give it time, they will be back in full force by mid-year.
You think Canadians are happy when the moron leading the US posts this?

on this issue there might be more people for it than against

Trudeau destroyed Canada, Trump is giving us a chance to survive :)
Perhaps, but I'm just saying that those in favor of something as it currently stands do not want referendums to decide matters. This is just a general observation. We see this with various State referendums. Politicians and political groups will fight the will of the people. Even if a referendum gets on the ballot and passes, many times the government spends vast time and money trying to work around it.

I think you'd do better to have a referendum on windmills.
Somebody has to save the whales.

This is all hypothetical and just interesting chatter. The Canadian government won't allow a referendum. The U.S. Congress won't agree to add any new States.

I do have a question.
Can't individual provinces technically vote to leave the confederation under your Constitution?

Google Quebec separation, its been done.
The bigger question is why are you taking this seriously enough to keep going on about referendums?

Provinces cannot unilaterally decide to leave, I don't know why people seem to think they can; this is why the Quebec issue has always been so stupid.

Section 41 of the constitution outlines the process: all 10 provinces must unanimously agree to such a move PLUS the House of Commons would have to unanimously agree to it as well.

you didn't really think it through, did you

you would have exactly the same, smaller number but it would be in US dollars

value would be exactly the same

in hard currency and not in Monopoly money
Oh, I didn't know you seen the agreement already.
What else is in it?
Do we keep our current health care system or do we get fucked over and it all goes private.
Do we lose the metric system and go back to the imperial system?
Does Lake Ontario get renamed? The Great Pumpkin Lake would be a good name.
Please inform us all of the details in the agreement.

On a previous thread about this whole U.S.-Canadian thing, I jokingly said we couldn't deal with the needy Quebecois. We'd have to leave them out. Apparently, everyone's figured that out.

To all those people who want Canada to be the 51st state.
So picture the day it becomes official and you go check your bank account and you see a much lower the balance is on all of your savings, investments.
That's right, the current exchange rate is roughly 45%. So your $100,000 is now $69,000 roughly
Enjoy!

Edit.
Just checked the exchange rate, it's 48%
The twats within Canada supporting Trump at all costs believe it will be at par. LOL It must be nice to live in a clown's world.
