I had that happen a few years ago...I walked out and left everything on the belt. There are plenty of stores that will take my hard earned money. I don't play silly games with people that I am giving my money, I do not tolerate it.

I have also left shopping carts in line and walked out when in the cashier goes to do a price check. Plenty of stores near my house someone will take my money.

About 15 years ago I was buying 4 imported high end kitchen appliances in a boutique type store. I couldn't find a salesperson in the whole store so I opened a box to look at the item, the salesperson came out of the back and started to chew me out. I explained and apologized and decided to buy 4 of the item's ($300 each).
The salesperson took the items to the cash, I told her I would like them gift wrapped and she continued to say that people shouldn't open packages and on and on. I apologized again explained there was no one in the store and she continued blah blah blah. I waited till she wrapped all 4 ( still babbling) and she rang all into the cash, told me the price, I pulled out my credit card and before I handed it to her I said: " I find you very rude, and think I will take business elsewhere" and walked out. She didn't not say one word as I walked out. I drove to another store and they gladly accepted my money.
I will not tolerate crap from people I am giving my money too. Never.

Do you what YOU did was FAIR to the store employee???? She might have been there by herself by no fault of her own and busy when you came in the store.. You have a high opinion of yourself!!!!!!!!!!!

When returning an item, the store should have a "take a number" system. There are some people:mad: who just don't understand the first come first serve system.

I hate when they fill the isles so full of shit, and people all stop and start a family fucking reunion. I got so mad last year, I crashed carts out of the way, and yeah could have been seen on Trailer Park boys!!
I agree. The worst is the LCBO at Xmas. They bring in skids of booze filling up the floor space, and it never emptys, then they have 5 to 10 times the amount of customers, so you can't move and get past the family reunions. Then the first week of Jan, they haul it all out again. Makes no sense, just a waste of energy.

My pet peeve is to do with checkouts (still): Loblaws will allow 10 or more people lined up at 4 or 5 cashiers and not open any to release the backlog.

When this happens to me at any store, I walk out leaving evrything in the cart or basket.

I hate the people who get pissed off for no other reason, then it's busy. I get flipped the bird more at Christmas than any other time of year....Well, Merry Fuckin Ho! Ho! to you too...lol
Now try working in that kind of environment 40+ hours a week...No wonder I can find the fire ax in the dark.

But in all honesty, that's probably the biggest reason I'm beginning to loath Christmas. As a result, I'm prone to getting rather depressed around this time of year. And Christmas Day, when the family gathers, I get called out as an asshole, because I'd sooner be left alone.

People relax it shouldn't be so bloody stressful.
Now it'll sound odd coming from a guy, but I love to go "shopping." Ok, I seldom buy stuff. Maybe a few books, a CD/DVD or game. (Been meaning to buy some new cloths too. Been dropping weight, and I want a change from the jeans/t-shirt thing I have now to something nicer...But I don't know what I want) For me it's an excuse to get out.

But at this time of year, I want nothing to do with shopping. Like you suggested, Molly, the atmosphere in the stores/malls just gets so negative. Which is made that much worse by the festive dressings, and faux holly jolly attitudes presented by most people. "Merry Christmas, now move your ass I want that Gameboy!!"

way out in left field
Anybody tried those self-serve checkouts? They don't seem that busy.
I have yet to see them in any store other than Homo Depot. I love em frankly. I can whiz through faster than any cashier can....and yes, I DO scan every item TYVM lol.....

You have a high opinion of yourself!!!!!!!!!!!
I most certainly do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will repeat this so you know EXACTLY where I'm coming from:

I will not tolerate crap or poor service from anyone I am giving my money to. Be it a newspaper for $1.50, a shopping cart of food for $150, a Mercedes for $110,000 or a 40 ft Sabre Motor Yacht for $650,000!

Never.

If you want to be treated like shit, knock yourself out, not me, I have a higher opinion of myself than that. :D

P.S. The store was empty (that's why she was hanging out in the back) and she was part-owner, but if you read every post you would know that.

I'll answer this one...

They wanted my name and address and phone number! I paid cash for the item and they would not refund the cash unless I gave them that info. I even spoke to the Manager and he refused.

So I gave them John Public, 123 Main Street, Toronto, and a fictitious phone number.

Why should I have to give out my personal info?
This is to prevent employee theft. Seriously- Years ago when I first became the manager of a shoe store- the day after my day off, I was doing the paperwork. I came across a refund for a pair of shoes. It just happened to be the same size and style as a pr I had returned about a week prior. Thinking I may have a manufacturing problem I went to check the "damaged" shoes- there was only 1 pr- the pair I had returned. Strange I thought since there were 2 refunds. I called the woman that had supposedly returned the shoes the day before- she did not exist! I then started checking all the refunds from this associate. She had been stealing cash and "hiding" it as refunds for MONTHS! $2200 worth! She lost her job obviously and there was a big investigation- she was a long time employee too- 4- 5 years in fact and she made a point to transfer to a different store every 6-8 months to "spread out" the losses and avoid detection.

Anyway, from that day forward I routinely checked refunds that I wasn't personally aware of. I would simply call the customer under the guise of customer service. You know, "Was your refund handled in a courteous manner" etc.... that sort of thing. I managed stores for 7 years and was a District Manager after that. None of my stores ever had an employee theft problem after that.

Pet Peeve for me: when paying by cash and the change is given, why oh why do they pile the coins on top of the bills. I cup my hand to hold the coins, and must first remove the bills, sometimes sending the coins in all directions. Please, coins on the bottom, bills on top.
Whew, now I feel better !
