Regrettably, it is far from unusual to learn than that a comedian has been wrestling with depression.

Even his interviews on shows like inside the actors studio or late show were epic.
This guy had a very impressive wit

I am truly saddened by this.

(This is NOT a brag)

I had the opportunity to spend some real quality one on one time with him several years ago when he was in filming a movie. He and I would spend time just talking. About politics(yes Canadian politics!) World affairs and other interesting topics.

He was the genuine article. Really cared about people. As much a great listener as a performer. Without a shred of arrogance. When I saw him later on for briefer periods he would remember out conversations and pick them up again like it was yesterday.

I will miss him not only as a performer, but for the man he was.

Sometimes the clown is laughing outside but crying inside. Some people achieve fame and fortune only to discover that it does not make them happy. They try other things like drugs and booze but that only dulls the pain for a while.

Gods, we need to get a handle on mental health....

So sorry to hear he's gone. We lost a great artist and a great person.

Nanu nanu ... lol

I have always wondered who came up with the word 'nanu'. The writers or Robin ... I suspect he, Robin, did.
I logged on and this thread was on top .... I just stared for about two minutes ... hoping that there was some other guy named Robin Williams.
Then I hoped it was a joke, maybe even started by Williams himself.

I really liked his stand up.
Good Will Hunting is a favorite show of mine, I will also watch Dead Poets when it comes on.
My favorite movie of his is Good Morning Vietnam ... but like many others the role I loved the best was Mork.

I saw this on YouTube about two years ago, laughed until I cried, and now I watch it every now and then when I need a laugh. Now if you will excuse me ...

Robin Williams suffered from Bipolar. It is a very sad day indeed. He lost his battle with the disorder but is now finally at peace. Most people can not understand the struggle that people with bipolar face. He was a strong person who spoke out and is looked up to by many in the mental health community as well as all his accomplishments in his acting career.

My thought and prayers with his family.

Man, this really fucking sucks.
Many comedians suffer from mental illnesses such as depression and bipolar disorder. Perhaps, being funny is a coping strategy. What is also interesting is the fact that many chronically depressed people are very brilliant.

RIP Robin Williams. You gave us great happiness. May you find eternal happiness wherever you are.

Very sad, saw his standup live a couple of years ago - had his first album and would listen to it over and over... such an amazing talent. My daughter rode up an elevator with him in NYC when she was young (1st grade) and told me "I meet Mrs. Doubtfire today" apparently he was really sweet with her.

His monologue on golf is hilarious and he does a pretty good Scottish accent!
If I recall he was one of Carson's favs.
