That may be true but the UK's chances of negotiating a Free Trade Deal with India are at zero. The Sub-Continent is demanding reparations amounting to $18 trillion from occupation. The British Raj had to make a deal with Gandhi during WWII, the Burmese joined forces with the Japanese.

Along with India other countries will be Africa and China.
Yes too much history to digest. Mixed bag of good and bad.

The delightful story of the 2 US turists that met the Queen in the country and didn't realize who she was and she didn't tell them.

It really shows the mindset of the aristocracy

You've always hated the Royals Dan, best avoid those threads. She was known to have a sense of humor and actually she showed to be humble in this case by not flashing who she was.

Charles didn't have to be "named king." There's no official ceremony for becoming king, there's no oath of office; there's no swearing in ceremony; there's no document to be signed. Charles simply became King the moment Elizabeth died. That's how it works.

King Edward VIII was in fact King Edward VIII even though he was never "crowned."
Actually there is.
Yes, the title of King immediately transferred to him on the Queens death he will not be officially proclaimed King until announced by the Accession Council which will happen at 10am UK time on Saturday.
This happens in two parts. The first is a meeting of the Privy Council without the monarch present to proclaim the sovereignty and formally approve various consequential orders.
The second is the new monarchs first meeting with their Privy Council where he will make his Declaration and read and sign his oaths and approve various Orders in Council to facilitate the continuity of government.

Traditionally the whole Privy Council would be summoned for the event but as there are now over 700 of them that is not practical. Still, 200 of them will be there.

There was an item on that subject a while ago, on TV. False. When asked how much the royal family factored into their visits to England or thoughts regarding England the answer was a resounding zero.
Nonsense. They sell tours all day long. They may not be “the reason” people go… but they still get in line.

But that is not the only way the Brits make money off the Royals. There is a prestige to it. If Harry and Meagan walked into a local Restaurant or Hotel, it would be buzzing for weeks.

If you can get a Royal to attend an event, or do business with you, your project or event automatically legitimacy…

I can’t even count the ways people make make money off them. It’s a grift… but it’s a good one.

There's lineups for hot dogs at certain street vendors in Britain. As with the Royals, they don't really make much of a dent in the GDP graph either.

Re-read my post. I clearly differentiated the loss of the woman vs the loss of a Monarch. I agree the world will tune in en masse, but IMO that is more a testament of who she was as a person and a stateswoman than any sorrow the world holds that England has lost a 'Queen' of the Monarchy. Only England really gives a crap about that.
Lagos, Nigeria The death of Queen Elizabeth II has prompted an outpouring of reflection and reaction online. But not all was grief -- some young Africans instead are sharing images and stories of their own elders, who endured a brutal period of British colonial history during the Queen's long reign.
"I cannot mourn," one wrote on Twitter, posting an image of what she said was her grandmother's "movement pass" -- a colonial document which prevented free travel for Kenyans under British rule in the east African country.
Another wrote that her grandmother "used to narrate to us how they were beaten & how their husbands were taken away from them & left to look after their kids," during colonial times. "May we never forget them. They are our heroes," she added.
Their refusal to mourn highlights the complexity of the legacy of the Queen, who despite widespread popularity was also seen as a symbol of oppression in parts of the world where the British Empire once extended.

Kenya, which had been under British rule since 1895, was named an official colony in 1920 and remained that way until it won independence in 1963. Among the worst atrocities under British rule occurred during the Mau Mau uprising, which started in 1952 -- the year Queen Elizabeth took the throne.

The colonial administration at the time carried out extreme acts of torture, including castration and sexual assault, in detainment camps where as many as 150,000 Kenyans were held. Elderly Kenyans who sued for compensation in 2011 were ultimately awarded £19.9 million by a British court, to be split between more than 5,000 claimants.

"The Queen's legacy started in colonialism and is still wrapped in it. It used to be said that the sun did not set over the British empire. No amount of compassion or sympathy that her death has generated can wipe that away,"

What I abhor is the institution of Monarchy.

In my younger years, I met the queen of Denmark, who is an accomplished women, and who ironically could have done well on her own facilities.

It never fails to puzzle me that most people want somebody and their extensive brood to live in object luxury for no other reason than their birth canal, and that they are delighted to pay for this whole circus. The excuses they come up with for it are hilarious.
