The world will mourn the loss of an incredible individual and stateswoman. Few outside the UK will mourn the loss of an English monarch. The impact, influence and prestige of the British Monarchy is not what it once was, and will slide even further down the scale towards global irrelevance after Elizabeth passes.

Wrong. Her funeral will be watched by more people than the World Cup final. The modern world will come to a halt. Just remember the effect on the world during Princess Diana’s funeral.
Re-read my post. I clearly differentiated the loss of the woman vs the loss of a Monarch. I agree the world will tune in en masse, but IMO that is more a testament of who she was as a person and a stateswoman than any sorrow the world holds that England has lost a 'Queen' of the Monarchy. Only England really gives a crap about that.

She's 96. She's been a tough old bird but the eagle in the sky may be calling her home.
Great analogy mate.

100% agree - not living in England, I never understood why we made such a big deal of the queen and the monarchy.

All of her children are at her side.

Won't be long until "The Queen is dead, Long live the KIng!"
Agreed… if everyone dropped their schedules to go to Scotland, it probably won’t be long.

Definitely an end of the era in GB. A classy lady, WW2 vet and all around decent person. I pray they can publish her diary.

Yeah, I understand your view. But, she is technically our head of state and the Queen of Canada. So, anything that happens to her will be a big deal. I know that the BBC has a plan in place for when she dies. It goes something like all radio stations will broadcast the official announcement, the country will enter into a period of mourning, no comedic shows will air for a few days and so on. Not sure what we'll do in Canada. I'm sure the CBC & CTV will provide wall to wall coverage, and it will likely be their biggest story of the day. They already have her obit basically ready to air (just needs the final details), and there will be "experts" who will talk about her legacy, his impact on the Commonwealth, the de-colonization process and what it all means for Canada (I'm also 100% sure these channels have already reached out to royal experts to get them ready to come on).

Now, think about what it will mean for Canada. We'll need to change our money to have King Edward (that's a guess, but there is a good chance Chucky will choose that or George) on both the paper and coins. All pictures of the Queen will eventually need to be updated to have the King's portrait. We'll need to learn the words to God Save the King....

Bottom line, you will not be able to avoid its impact. It will be the top story across Canada on the radio, television and in the newspaper. You'll see comparative plates, magazines, books, t-shirts, hats, condoms, spoons, dildos, drum kits, etc....

I am saddened to hear this actually. You know it's bad when Buckingham Palace is no longer downplaying this.

Queen E has given her entire life in service to to Britain and the entire British Commonwealth of which Canada is a part. She has always remained dignified and done her best for her people. I can't honestly think of too many politicians who can make the same claim. I hope she gets through this, but if she does pass, she will have left an indelible mark in this world. For pretty much every single living Canadian she has been a constant in our lives. From the photos on the walls of various government institutions, to always seeming to take a genuine interest in Canada. And any way you cut it, Canada would not be the nation it is today if were not for the Monarchy and the British planting the seeds of a nation. One need only look around the globe for proof positive of this. Never forget that.
