And of course Vince exploited it! If he had waited 24 hours his tribute show would never have aired! Fuck how dense does one have to be to not see that fact?

I don't ever want to defend the WWE and Vince McMahon, but save calls of them exploiting his death until we know how much they knew and how soon they knew it.

It's possible they only found out he died and it may have been too late to change it when the sordid details started to trickle through. Cancelling a live, broadcasted event, and putting together a three hour tribute special within hours is not easy.

As far as the WWE doing a tribute. You are talking about someone who is family to them. They find out that him, his wife, and his son are dead. Police are "NOT" allowed to give any further details on what happened until a coroner's report is given, so, how really can anyone say they knew at that time.

Don't get me wrong, I feel horrible that someone I admired, who now according to reports, did a very bad thing. We are just observers looking in and not somebody who spent each day with him on the road for years and years. Benoit was considered a very private person who didn't let many people in to his inner circle.

Saying this, if I were Vince McMahon, Edge, Dean Malenko or anybody else in he company, I wouldn't even want to think that they lost my friend/family would do anything in this regard. Therefore I would want to honor them the best way I can. Their thoughts were that they lost a member of their family as well and probably were struck very hard by this. It's easy for us to say they shouldn't have done this right away or that, but for them, they lost an honoured friend. I'm sure the shock of what actually happened is now even harder to take for them now as well.

Don't be quick to blame the steroids. I'm sure there are other factors leading to this whole situation. Who knows what was running through Benoits head at that time. He could have been on other drugs too or maybe he didn't take his perscription. We don't know and anything to the contary is just speculation.

All we know is he killed his wife and kid then hung himself.

...actually that is not true the WWE where the ones who informed police after Benoit's friends received bizarre text messages from the wrestler - this is according to the WWE site itself.

I still maintain that McMahon and Company showed complete lack of taste regarding this and a tribute show was not called for in a case where it was a good chance that he maybe a child and wife killer.

If in fact they would have had trouble with the performers not wishing to work they could have run a best of show citing the tragedy as the reason. A tribute show was just a grab for cash and ratings. It will backfire on the WWE.

I strongly disagree.

The WWE has pulled the tapes of last night's RAW, so that the regularly scheduled repeats in the U.S. and Canada won't be airing. Most of the tribute material has also been removed from the WWE website.

This suggests to me that they didn't really have a clear sense what had happened when they aired last night's tribute.

If you go back to the start of this thread, which began before RAW started, many cynics were initially questioning whether or not there would be a tribute. People who post here thought it was the right thing to do, and it is reasonable to conclude that McMahon and the WWE felt the same way.

Say what you like about McMahon, but he seems to be an honourable person when it comes to dealing with tragic deaths. I believe his intentions were noble.

1. That is old news from an an unaccredited souce. This was a rumour from last night from a "source" likely a wrestling fan who can't distinguish one's "he's a good guy in the dressing room" persona from reality. Basically he beleives celebrity over reality.

How exactly is it more plausable to you that the wife killed the child then Benoit did? Why would you think that?
