Surgical masks have like 30-50% protection from others, and N95 is 95% effective. However, a cloth mask prevents your breath from coming out in large enough amounts to infect others.

No one here is downplaying the potential health risks, but fear mongering and suggesting various industries will just shut down for years until a vaccine is available is kind of silly to me. Even things like nightclubs will start popping up as underground raves and parties eventually. I'm not debating the right and the wrong of this but the government knows they can't suppress the freedom of the population forever. I would be very surprised if there's much of any shutdown heading into July. The government knows it will be futile.

At the end of the day people gotta protect themselves. And trust me, the government will start pivoting their entire message in the coming weeks to suggest its safe for most to resume life while at risk groups should take greater precautions. The virus is most likely going to be with us forever. We need to learn to live with it, not sit at home forever in fear of it.
