I'm not here!
I'm nowhere near Toronto right now. In fact, I'm across the pond in Europe. So it was interesting to check into my hotel and flick through the TV lineup. I came across CNN around 4:30 Eastern time. so it was just after the lights went out. Things were still very uncertain, and CNN was doing their usual crap of telling people to remain calm while doing their best to hype up the situation. Their initial reporting was very focussed on New York City, but they did mention Toronto & Ottawa were out too.
So broke out the laptop and surfed in to the CBC where I got the full story. I was even able to listen in on CBC Radio One via a RealPlayer stream. So it was a very interesting experience being here yet still having oodles of juice to surf into any news outlet.
BBC eventually picked up the story, as did Deutsche Welle and TV5. But the converage was of course biggest on CNN.
Over here the newspapers haven't really reported on the situation which kinds of surprises me. Die Welt, Financial Times, The Times of London etc are all carrying normal headlines about European interests, Middle East situations, Iraq etc. The Great Power Blackout is reduced to a small story on the bottom of the front page. Most of the new coverage on TV tonight is centered on economic impact of the outage.
