Yeah, country night on Idol. Like Simon, country music is not my thing, so I won't try to get into a lot of critiques. At this point in the competition, I think it becomes more of a slow weeding out process than anyone jumping out in front or falling way behind because of a good or bad performance. Everyone pretty much has their fan base set, although I imagine a truly good or bad performance could get you or lose you some fringe votes.

That said, I did not perceive anyone to be truly great or horrible last night. To my untrained ear, I thought Kellie, Paris, and Katharine were probably better than average, and Chris did an nice job showing a non-rocker side. Ace continues to be gay, and I have come to the conclusion he is just the Federov of this season. Nothing really offensive about the guy, and he sings okay, but just too sensitive and boring for my taste. Elliott was fine but forgettable. Same thing with Bucky. The only one I was a little disappointed in was Taylor. He was boring for a 2nd week in a row.

With the obvious weak links already gone, there is no clear cut choice to go this week. I suspect it will be Ace, who I think is just the weakest overall of the finalists left.

Give me a friggin break. For once, they weren't sucking up to everyone, and blowin wind up their asses. The whole point of being a judge, is to get people to improve through constructive criticism. Paris hasn't improved since the auditions. She was flat several times during the song. I hope she gets bottom 3. And to say she has a hairstyle for every side of her. Multiple personalities. Look out. I still think she's Gary Coleman in drag.

Why, cause the truth hurts.

Simon calls it like he sees it. He admited he's not a fan of country music. He is always critiquing contestants on their ability to sing, as well as song choice. If he feels they could have done better with a different song, why not let them know it was a poor song choice. Randy and Paula have mentioned it once in awhile too.

The whole point of the competition is to see individuallity and talent. Yes it is a popularity contest, and I guess if you have a good speed dial, all the little girls can vote for the cutest guy whether he can sing or not.

Last night I thought Ace had a better song choice than Bucky, and sang better, even when Bucky is really comfortable doing country. Chris should have sang Walk the Line this week. Mandisa is no Shania Twain. Paris is no Leann Rimes.

Katherine McPhee showed her stuff again last night, and I'll start the lineup to buy her first CD. Kelly is cute, but needs to flirt with the audience more.

Totally agree. Mandisa has some talent, and it will get her pretty far in this competition, but at crunch time, she is just too big to be the American Idol. Last season, when Vonzell attempted "How Do I Live", it really highlighted her vocal limitations. Paris has a stronger voice, and did a better version, but she is a still a callow, vacuous little girl.

Katharine is looking more and more gorgeous each week. Not just cute, but flirty, hot, and ravishing all at the same time.

As for the judges, the best moment was when Simon took great joy in disagreeing with Paula over Paris' performance. I am pretty sure Simon didn't think Paris was all that great, but at that moment, it was more fun for him to disagree with Paula just for the sake of it.

tonight's show was a head turner. not only was mandisa voted out but elliot and paris were in the bottom 3. i like how they set it up cause you thought for sure bucky, ace, and katharine were in the bottom 3. it's obvious chris, kellie, and taylor are the top dogs vote wise.

I was a little surprised Mandisa got voted out tonight. After Lisa's departure last week, I would have thought America would wait a few weeks at least before whacking another black chick. But realistically, whether it was week 4 or week 8, you knew Mandisa would go eventually.

Next week, Queen!!? Should be interesting.

I Love the Pickle Tickler!

As a casual watcher, I thought Mandisa had the weakest performance that night. She butchered Shania's song, had no energy, and seemed out of breath at the start. It just goes to show you that it doesn't matter how good you were previous weeks, you have to bring it for every performance. I think America got it right last night, dawg.

I think Queen may suit Ace and Bucky next week. Too bad Mandisa won't be around to sing Fat Bottom Girls. The Pickle Tickler better stick to something simple, like Keep Yourself Alive or Somebody to Love, or she'll be in over her pretty little head.

Ohhh, such an obvious joke--I can't believe I missed the opportunity.

Looking through the Queen song catalog, I think it will be interesting. I am glad to see Queen, a somewhat underrated group from the late '70's/early '80's get their moment of glory. Undoubtedly someone will do 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (again), 'We Are the Champions', and 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' (again). I think 'Somebody to Love' would be tough. I'd like to see the contestants tackle 'You're My Best Friend' and 'Killer Queen'. I don't want to hear 'Bicycle Race' or 'Another One Bites the Dust' though.

ace would do oa good version of we are the champions with his squeaky high pitched voice. attempting bohemian rhapsody would be suicidal.

I really hope not.

'You're My Best Friend' would be good. It's one of my favourite Queen songs along wiyh '39' and 'Good Company' from 'A Night At The Opera'.

I hope not either. Last season, Constantine attempted 'Bohemian Rhapsody' but only did the opening and closing parts, skipping all the "Galileo" and "Bismallah" stuff. It is just such an odd song, I just don't see why anyone would want to risk it on a show like this.

"39" is an awesome song, and it would be great is someone attempted it next week.

And while we are waiting for the next AI edition, I wanted to get other thoughts on this one... did Mandisa ever have a chance on this show? I mean, there was one fat guy who won AI, but as we all know, there is a double standard when it comes to fat guys vs. fat women. The other female winners have all been normal sized, and generally cute too. I would like to think that if someone were really truly a gifted singer, and clearly better than everyone else, that they would have a fair shot to win, no matter what they looked like. But Mandisa just wasn't that good, and therefore, I am forced to conclude she never had a chance.

I think Mandisa got as far as she did because she is a good singer. She's a better singer than a few that are still on the show but not good enough to overcome her other obvious obstacles. I don't think she ever had a chance at actually winning. There are others on the show that sing as well as she does and are a better fit for the "Idol Prototype" (for lack of a better term). Personally, I don't like her style of singing and would never buy one of her cd's (if she actually ever makes one). I think Paris is a better singer.

Kellie is growing on me. I didn't like her to start out but I think she's done well on a couple of shows recently. Ace has shown that he's better than I originally thought as well. I thought both of them did really well on the country show. Chris showed another side and was excellent. Taylor bored me to tears and I really don't get why he's so popular. I don't think he's a very good singer. I'm starting to think Katharine is not as good as I originally thought. She's been disappointing that last couple of shows.

Yeah, it's an interesting conundrum. Simon has historically been the only judge to ever broach the subject of physical appearance and how it relates to being the American Idol. I mean, Paula says stupid stuff like "You look very pretty tonight", but you know she doesn't mean it the way Simon does, which is, "I just don't think you have the look of someone who can be successful in this business".

But on the other hand, one of the nice things about AI, is that it is democratic, and even if you are a little odd looking (Kevin Covais, Clay Aiken anyone?), if you can sing, you are invited to compete, and let America decide. Let's face it, Clay was a total dork, but the boy could sing, and eventually that allowed him to go pretty far. I tend to agree, I think Mandisa got a fair shake, and one could argue her demise was due to two off weeks in a row, and had nothing to do with the fact she did not fit the "Idol mold". I also agree, though, she wasn't going to win.

I think there is a tendency for frontrunners to "mail it in" during the middle weeks of this show. Carrie seemed kind of undistinguished a few weeks last year, and so did Fantasia the year before. I think Katharine knows she is a frontrunner, but I also think she should let that bottom 3 finish of two weeks ago give her a little more motivation. She needs to get back to form quickly.

taylor is much more popular than katharine. katharine having been in the bottom 3 supports that.

my predictions: chris will win, kellie will be second, and taylor will be third.

who's gone this week..... elliot.

Yea Taylor is more popular but I like Karharine better, and Taylor rhymed with Four, Macphee with three, lol!

But you know, I agree Chris is presently better than Kelly, but Kelly has "it", and if she improves in the comin weeks she could pull it off.

Ok either you're totally fucking with us or you're mental. Paris was the only one you somewhat got right. Ace...ok? Bucky...good? Chris bad? Kat boring? Elliot killed? Ok no more from you.
