I'm afraid I think Kevin survives another week. If anything, I think his little girl/old lady coalition is getting even stronger.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Ace is lame. In the prelims, I thought he was pretty good actually. But now on the big stage, against all the other top contestants, I think it has become clear he is just not at the same level as the others.

Although I still think Bucky is the odds on favorite to go tonight, it would not break my heart if it were Ace. I actually think Bucky is better than Ace, but Ace has that smoldering come hither thing going on with his eyes.

I must be the only one watching with the sound up because that guy Chris sings out of key and his voice keeps cracking... his treatment of the Cash song was great and original but his voice sucks...imo

PS: I hate to admit that I watch this show.... now I'm gonna call my mommy

Best 3 performances were Chris, Katharine and Paris with Kellie very close behind. Worst 3 IMO were Kevin, Bucky and Ace.

Well, it looks like Kevin's fun ran out. I give the kid props for enjoying the ride, but if not this week, then it would have been soon. So much for the little girl/old lady coalition.

Actually, not so original. The Aussie band Live released a version almost bang on to Chris' in a 2004 release. I hope Chris gave credit to them like he did the Chilli Peppers and the producers left it on the cutting floor. If not, it could hurt his credibility.
This is very interesting. We all should have known that Chris and Barry could not have come up with such an original arrangement in just a few hours.

Even though I think Chris is more talented than any of the other so-called "rockers" touted on this show before, I still wonder if a performer of this style can win a competition like American Idol.

Today just seems sooooo much nicer now that good ole Kevin is back home getting ass raped by the bullies at his high school.

I thought tonight's show was beyond poor. They did a songs of the new milennium night last year too, and I remember thinking that show was weak too. I don't know what it is. Is it just too broad a net?

Okay, the rundown:

Lisa - I have to admit, I've been a little puzzled why this girl seems so unpopular. She is younger and thinner than Mandisa, and far less annoying than Paris, so why is she the odd sista out? After this week's outing, I know why--she simply isn't very good.

I have to admit, I like Kelly Clarkson. I liked her when she was on AI 1, and I like her now. When "Because of You" came out, I wasn't too excited. I thought it was a fairly dull song, and not as good as "Since You've Been Gone", for example. After hearing Lisa butcher that song tonight, I have renewed respect for Kelly's talent. Kelly makes that song seem effortless, and it became obvious very quickly that Lisa just doesn't have that kind of power. Now, granted, Kelly's a pro and Lisa's a kid, but Simon summed it up when he said she picked a song that was too big for her.

Kellie and Bucky - I am lumping them together because I have no ear for country music and will give them the benefit of the doubt in believing they both did passable jobs. Kellie is popular, so she isn't going anywhere, but Bucky needed a breakout performance.

Ace - A bit less gay this week, and I thought he did an acceptable job on that Train song. Just not real exciting.

Mandisa - She just sounded a little off to me tonight, and while I know she can't wear a muumuu every week, the sight of her in those pants was unnerving. I had to look away. I don't think she goes anywhere just yet.

Chris - I like Chris, but for crying out loud, Creed? I thought Simon's comments were spot on. Indulgent, and quite frankly, it's getting a little repetitive and boring even. Over the past two weeks, Chris has found a loophole in the weekly themes, first with the Chili Peppers' version of "Higher Ground" and next with Live's version of "I Walk the Line", so he really hasn't had to change his style very much. Even though I think Chris has a lot of talent, one of the things I like about this competition is watching vocalists attack different styles. It is a singing competition after all. I like Chris, but unless he shows he can do something else, I think Katharine should win.

Katharine - Maybe I'm tonedeaf, but I thought she was sharp for most of the song. I think she did a decent job, but like with Lisa and Kelly Clarkson, I thought she paled in comparison to Christina. I thought her outfit was unflattering too. Doesn't matter, she stays.

Taylor - I appreciated the fact that he kept his histrionics under control this week, but I couldn't help be a little bored. He stays.

Paris - LOL. While I appreciate the fact that she tried the rumpshaker move, I felt the same way as I did the previous week. She is a girl trying to act like a woman. Again, the vocals were fine, but I didn't buy the performance. She stays, but I think she is losing capital.

Elliott - Yep, that damn 'One Tree Hill' song again. I thought it was a pretty good effort, a little more personality being shown. This helps his cause.

I think it's pretty clear Lisa goes, although sometimes when Simon is mean to someone, they get a lot of sympathy votes. Nah, Lisa goes.

Yeah, I could have done without watching this week. I was thinking I suffered a blow to the head or something since everyone's (except maybe Taylor and Paris's) vocals grated on me.

I was in total agreement with Simon on everyone's performance up until Katharine. I've liked her voice from the start, but tonight... ugh, it made me cringe. And yeah, homonger, song choices notwithstanding, who chooses her wardrobe???

anyone know of any MP or SP that look like her?
Better yet, I can't believe Paris is still there. She could pass for Gary Coleman's sister. She's got the squeaky voice too.

50's night on Idol. I hate to admit it, but I knew most of the songs. Overall, I enjoyed the performances, and I must say, a lot of those '50's songs were pretty sexy. Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Patsy Cline--they had some hot songs!

I was actually impressed by Barry Manilow's coaching, particularly his direction for them to feel the songs they are singing, not just sing them. Good advice, because they all can sing to some extent. The difference has to be in the performance. Anyway, here's my rundown:

Paris - She sings okay, but that "Fever" song requires a real woman to sing it. Once again, she tried to belt it, but that song is all about delivery and attitude. I don't think she pulled it off at all, but I think she advances.
I've seen better talent on the old CKCO talent show, and 6 to 8 yr olds to boot. I like Simon's comment about her being a little girl trying to act like Beyonce.

i only watched part of the show tonight and it sucked.

lisa - i agree with homie. why is she so unpopular??? i like lisa. she didn't do great tonight but neither did anyone else.

kellie - suds in the bucket??? wtf was she thinking??? oh wait, she wasn't. terrible terrible terrible. luckily, as ryan pointed out, huge fan base including myself. pick pickler!!!

ace - rock song??? constantine reincarnated??? he doesn't have the strong voice to be a rocker. stick with george michael and michael jackson. that allegedly sexy stare at the end annoys me to no end.

mandisa - i thought the song was entertaining but, as homie commented, i just can't look at her sing. good time for me to make some snacks though.

chris - it's not american heavy metal bud. he'll be the biggest star in the group no if, and, or buts.

katharine - they compared her to christina??? they must love her cause all i envisioned in my head was christina swearing at the tv on how someone was killing her song.

taylor - go back to the doobie brothers. that was tres boring.

overall, the show lacked lustre and excitement. it felt very rushed with 10 singers in an hour show.

There was a bit of drama when we saw Katharine and Lisa were in the bottom two, but we all knew it would be Lisa going. I was hoping, of course, it would be Ace. Lisa's demise is kind of surprising, but at the same time you could see it coming. She was so good during the preliminaries, I really thought she would be a contender. But once they were on the big stage, she sort of fell apart. I still subscribe to my "Two Sistas Are All America Can Handle in the Finals" theory, and she just wasn't as consistently good as Paris or Mandisa.

As for Katharine in the bottom two, I predict we will not see Katharine again in the bottom for the remainder of the show. I do think that voters take for granted that their favorites will remain, and I bet none of her fans will forget to vote again.

I want Ace to go next, and it seems logical to me that he should. First, he isn't that good. Second, I suspect Bucky has a bigger fan base than any of us might think. I mean, if you are a young straight girl, Bucky is the logical choice to vote for. He's better looking than Elliott, less gay than Ace, younger looking than Taylor, and has more hair than Chris. Go Bucky!

Shakira was the highlight of the show. Now that's how you do the rumpshaker move, Paris.

In her departing montage, Lisa said, "How many people get to be in the top twelve of American Idol?"
Hmm, don't tell me, let me guess... umm... is it... twelve???

Yes, I'm an ass.

Well Randy and Paula are pretty much fucking useless. They couldn't judge their way out of a paper bag. Paris was phenomenal. So was Kat.

Give me a friggin break. For once, they weren't sucking up to everyone, and blowin wind up their asses. The whole point of being a judge, is to get people to improve through constructive criticism. Paris hasn't improved since the auditions. She was flat several times during the song. I hope she gets bottom 3. And to say she has a hairstyle for every side of her. Multiple personalities. Look out. I still think she's Gary Coleman in drag.
