Yeah, country night on Idol. Like Simon, country music is not my thing, so I won't try to get into a lot of critiques. At this point in the competition, I think it becomes more of a slow weeding out process than anyone jumping out in front or falling way behind because of a good or bad performance. Everyone pretty much has their fan base set, although I imagine a truly good or bad performance could get you or lose you some fringe votes.
That said, I did not perceive anyone to be truly great or horrible last night. To my untrained ear, I thought Kellie, Paris, and Katharine were probably better than average, and Chris did an nice job showing a non-rocker side. Ace continues to be gay, and I have come to the conclusion he is just the Federov of this season. Nothing really offensive about the guy, and he sings okay, but just too sensitive and boring for my taste. Elliott was fine but forgettable. Same thing with Bucky. The only one I was a little disappointed in was Taylor. He was boring for a 2nd week in a row.
With the obvious weak links already gone, there is no clear cut choice to go this week. I suspect it will be Ace, who I think is just the weakest overall of the finalists left.
