It starts tomorrow...5 games...it'll be nice to watch some games...

It'll be good for some of us to get away from a terrible start to 2021 and the news channels covering the doom and gloom that is American society.

No one dies in the NHL games...no one cares about twitter or facebook...you don't see behaviour that is so crude and belligerent that it's hard to watch...no mention of fake news, election fraud.

Every night there are games on TV, often several...it'll be a great escape.

some teams like Buffalo have not played a meaningful game in over 10 months. Hockey careers are short and prime years are even shorter. Hence the pipeline.

For a team that misses the playoffs it is usually about 6 months.

Flyers-Penquins game has been pretty good...despite Pierre Maguire.
He's 10X better than the human tranquilizer, AKA Craig Simpson. Has there ever been a more colourless colour man in any sport. Just like Michael Palin as the accountant in Monty Python, "duwh, duwh, duwh".

not always sure...
What is worse, playing in Winnipeg or Columbus? I have not been to either city but I’d imagine Winnipeg is nicer than Columbus only because I’m Canadian.
The Jets are known to have a quality organization and Dubois’ father coaches with their AHL affiliate Manitoba Moose, so Dubois has family living in Winnipeg which counts for a lot.

Similarly Jack Roslevic is from Ohio so he’s staying at home. He’s sitting out this season in a contract dispute and wanted to be traded anyway, so perfect situation for him.

Laine’s contract is expiring at the end of this season and he wasn’t happy playing on the second line, so Winnipeg had to trade him while they could get something for him. They have talented wingers so bonus that Dubois is a quality centre which they need, while Columbus gets a pure goal scorer which they need.

I don’t think the living environments are the primary issues here.

I love how Winnipeg has run their organization since the return from Atlanta. A few bumps on the along the road but the front office didn’t panic and they’re a very good team.

Why did they have Laine on the 2nd line?
I don’t pretend to be an expert, but they have Kyle Connor playing left wing on the first line and he’s way more effective - he can do a variety of things at high speed and can really drive that line. He works super well with Scheifele and Wheeler.

Laine was tried repeatedly on the top line last year and it just never worked as well; he’s been more of a “feed me in the slot” guy. He, or more particularly his agent, had trouble adjusting to this and asked for a trade.

The New York Rangers have placed defenseman Tony DeAngelo on waivers.

Following last night's game, he initiated a confrontation with a teammate and didn't fair too well.
DeAngelo has been a polarizing individual since his days in junior hockey.

So far, there is no truth to the rumour that he has been claimed by the far right.

The Bruin - Ranger game to-night was a war. I lost count after 4 fights.

Bruins are 10-1-2

Florida Panthers are leading the league in winning percentage at .800 in a very tough division.
Who woulda’ thunk...
Last season I said the Leafs were a borderline playoff team. If the divisions were the same this season, the Leafs would be up against Tampa, Boston and Florida. So, they probably would have to try to make the playoffs as a wild card.
