Cam Newton produces touchdowns on first two plays back with Carolina Panthers
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...two-plays-back-carolina-panthers?platform=amp

Cam's first two touches result in touchdowns
Cam Newton gets a rushing touchdown on his first touch, then throws for a touchdown to Robby Anderson on his second touch.

Okay, so ...... ?

A total gain of 3 to 5 yards does not equate to having the consistent ability to move the ball hundreds of yards down the field for touchdowns and/or field goals during the entirety of an NFL game.

Over the course of 60 odd offensive plays during a game and/or games old habits will prevail.

From the article:
Newton finished with 8 yards passing and 14 yards rushing. Those aren't the numbers that made him the NFL MVP in 2015, when he helped Carolina to an NFL-best 15-1 season and a trip to the Super Bowl.

I don't think that anybody proclaimed it to be anything more than it was.

Cam is not a good QB. He won't be the solution for Carolina's woes at the position.
I forgot to put my best bets for this past week I was bang on with Chiefs and Panthers but dead wrong on the Browns. Patriots have won 4 in a row and only 0.5 games behind the Bills for 1st in the AFC East. Surprising for sure.

As much as so many people hate him, never count out Bill B.
And yes, Cam is not even an average QB.

Ok anbrandy here is a topic for discussion
Thursday night football like it or leave it?

I personally think it should be eliminated. Teams just aren't ready to play 4 days after their prior game. It results in an inferior product. The play is dull, sloppy and key players are often scratched when if they were playing on the Sunday they would likely suit up. It also sucks for fantasy and betting purposes.

I'd like to see it moved to Friday or Saturday nights. I get that it overshadows the high school and college ball but there's enough to go around. The only time I support Thursday games is on Thanksgiving.

I read somewhere that the US Congress passed legislation restricting Fridays to high school football and Saturdays to college football. Thus the NFL is shut out of those days.

Mmmm not sure about that. College Bowl games in late December and early January are played during the weekdays.

That's correct. The NFL can hold games on a Friday or Saturday but they would be violating anti-trust laws and could be subject to blackouts and fines. That's been in effect since 1961. Wow.
Nevertheless, they have to do something about these Thursday night games. For the most part they are crappy (this past one was a complete dud) and teams just aren't ready to play on 3-4 days rest.

Week 11 best bets

Carolina -3 vs. Washington Football Team. See a temporary boost due to Cam Newton under centre. CMC is fully healthy and their defense has played pretty stout for most of the season.
Baltimore -6 at Chicago. Even if Lamar Jackson doesn't play I think the Ravens will cover. Bears will be without run stuffer Akiem Hicks, WR Allen Robinson and LB Khalil Mack who was placed on IR.
Indy +7 at Buffalo. Buffalo tends to have problems with teams that pound the rock up the middle. The Colts have a top OL and a top RB. That should be enough to at least keep the game within one score. They've also been playing much better football after a dreadful start.

Patriots beat the Bills 14-10. Patriots ran 49 plays, 46 of which were running plays. Tough loss for the Bills who had hopes of an AFC East division championship again this season. Now they're up to their necks in the Wild Card pool. Rematch is boxing day.

Week 14 best bets
Buccaneers -3 vs. Bills. The Bills are trending in the wrong direction and couldn't even beat a team that threw the ball a total of 3 times last week. They are also missing Tredavious White which is a big loss. Bucs can run the ball, Fournette has been having a stellar season.

Ravens +3 at Browns. I don't understand this line at all. It should really be at a pick em or Browns minus 1 for the home field advantage. I like the Ravens to win outright they are a better team.

Saints -5.5 at Jets. Jets just placed rookie WR Elijah Moore on IR, he's been their best offensive player. Earlier in the week they placed their other starting WR Corey Davis on IR. Jets are playing for the 1st overall pick they have no desire to win this game. Saints get RB Kamara back after a 3 game absence. Could be a blowout.

Bonus pick
Bengals +1.5 vs. 49'ers. There's a lot of uncertainty in this one because of potential key injuries for both teams. But I like the Bengals to win this one at home they're hungry for the win to keep pace in the division and the tough AFC wild card race.

Does anyone still believe Urban Meyer can have success as a coach in the NFL?

I've heard several reports that he has all but lost the locker room. I don't think that bodes well for his continued existence as Jags head coach. He will likely be fired at season's end.
