Probably 1 of many reasons.
Read an article that Urban Meyer said vaccine status of players influenced roster cuts.
I can see it being an issue
players are in close quarters in meetings, drills, practices, travel even games.( especially huddles)
getting vaxxed is a personal choice but you live and die BY that choice.
Newton is a free agent now...so now he has a choice ....get vaxxed and get work on another team or stand his ground and possible never get another shot

He's originally from Atlanta. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Falcons sign him and trade Matt Ryan away. Falcons offence is a fit and they could probably save money and get a good pick(s) or prospects in return. He's still got a lot of arm left even after surgeries, could be a surprise this season depending on where he lands. Retirement is highly unlikely. Ego, however, is unpredictable. as is vax status.

Atlanta QB Matt Ryan is currently 36 years old.

Falcons QB Matt Ryan adjusting to new offensive scheme
“Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryanwill play for his fifth different offensive coordinator in 2021, but the former MVP is well-equipped to handle the changes as he enters his 14th NFL season. Ryan talked about transitioning to another system following Wednesday’s practice...”

Former Patriot QB Cam Newton is currently 32 years old.

Patriots cut Cam Newton: Cowboys, Texans among top landing spots for the former league MVP
“After New England released Newton, here's a look at where the QB could wind up..
Houston
Washington
Dallas...”

Maybe the Giants...

Will Cam Newton take another snap this Season?

he will be signed if a QB goes down in the first 3 weeks
after that it will be as an insurance policy for 1 of the young guns should they begin to faulter

Houston makes the most sense if Watson is suspended.

I don't see that happening. The Falcons prized possession right now is rookie TE Kyle Pitts. They would rather Ryan be the mentor than Cam.

No, that's not happening, why would Atlanta trade Ryan for another old QB with a bad shoulder. Cam Newton is not what he used too be, his body is beat up and he's oft injured now. Ryan is a better passing QB than Cam ever was. When ATL didn't draft a QB with the 3rd pick, it meant they are sticking with Ryan for a few more years. Beside what team would want to trade for a older QB like Ryan....nobody. Cam's option now is being a back-up or a stop gap measure like he did in New England, and we saw what N.E. did, they drafted a QB in the 1st rd.

Unless you're a desperate team, I think the league has had enough of this guy. Anti- vaxxer, poor performance last year and his pouting antics on the sideline. He is done.

Season starts tonight with Cowboys vs Bucs -9, it should be a easy win for the Bucs.

I am going to say this as an observation and not as a hater, but I think K.C. QB Patrick Mahomes is overhyped. Yes he is very good, but the media and talking heads act like he is already the greatest QB to ever live. Mahomes was bad to average in the first 3qts of his 1st super bowl. Then last year SB, the whole Chief team was bad including Mahomes. Put Russel Wilson on that K.C. team and he would put up the same numbers. By the way, I don't expect the Chiefs in another SB, they are going to have a down year...IMHO.

Not bad at all, I also took Brown and Dolphins.
I had Lions +8, Steelers +6, Browns + 5.5 and Raiders +4 on a four team parley. Unfortunately I had the Vikings -3 on a parlay with the Dolphins.....Minn is going to have a down year.

I didn’t do very well at my pool this week. It’s straight up and here’s the ones I lost at :

Atlanta, Minnesota, Indy, Tennessee, Washington, New England, giants, Green Bay and Baltimore. One of my worst starts ever.

wtf happened to Green Bay ? I thought maybe Rogers sat out. The saints are good but 5 TDS to Winston ? He can light it up at times but Green Bay is suppose to be a contender ? Atlanta only 6 points ?

I had the Raiders last night. The Colts and the Vikings cost me this week. Not a bad start on to week 2.

Week 2 best bets (ATS)

KC -3.5 at Baltimore. Lamar Jackson is 0 for 3 against KC in his career. I don't think that they have the passing game to compete with KC's high octane offense. Not to mention the key injuries they have sustained.
Denver -6.5 at Jacksonville. The Jaguars have the worst run defense in the NFL. I expect that Melvin Gordon III and Javonte Williams will combine for over 200 yards of rushing.
Tennessee +5.5 at Seattle. I don't think the Seahawks defense is good enough to sustain an almost TD spread. Titans are a better team than what they showed in week 1.
