You sure about this lol!!. God forbid if they ever make this business criminal for one side only (the hobbyists) ....................!! God save us all!!!.

Is that what the problem is? Because right now it is the women who take more of the charges. So that is okay? But now that the GOV wants to flip it, it is an issue? I know for some men that is their issue with all this.

You're welcome! My next scheduled post is in September. It's hard to make that .2 of a post.
Considering how uninformed some of the posters are, feel free to bump it up to an even three...four of the keyboard can take it!

Hopefully the conservatives get fucked in the ass over this in the next election trying to kiss ass of the 15% of canadians that voted them in power.

I was pointing out the facts, that's all ;)

I agree with your point, and think he maybe needed a better lawyer. The charges stem from an investigation that took place before the laws were struck down, maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe our resident terb lawyers can help. Isn't there some sort of entrapment defense he could have used also? This undercover officer asked him for a job, she came to him, as did all his employees. He didn't go to them.
The city licensed his business knowing it was an escort agency, they knew he would need to hire employees - therefore they are equally guilty.
The citizens of Edmonton hired and elected those who established these rules and profited from them - therefore they should each be fined and made to do community work.

:p

Procuring -- s. 212 (1) (a) (d):

Also called pimping, it is against the law. You cannot entice a person who is not a prostitute to become a prostitute under any circumstance.

I'm confused as to how was he convicted of this offense. Is placing an ad for employees at an agency considered "enticing" people?
Ads are meant to entice, they show the rewards you can receive with no experience and no education. They can be very seductive to women who may not have considered being an escort.

They aren't guilty because they licensed the agency based on what the business owner declared, he declared providing escorting and companionship services not sexual services.
True, but the city knows the intent is sexual services and their concern is the owner's background, the location and making a few dollars.

I'm still betting that the Conservatives will go with full criminalization (ie. making prostitution illegal):

-it will be immune from any court challenge (unlike the nordic model).
-it will satisfy the conservative base.

not always sure...
What if the public opinion (public consultation) are against this resolution ? Aren't they allowed to change their mind/position ?
Don't mistake the public consultation for a referendum - it was only a public relations exercise that they'll taper to support what they were going to do anyway. It gives the voting public an impression that they've had some input and it serves no other purpose.

Actually I wanted to post something similar that may be the survey results were so much anti-Nordic and pro-decriminalization so that they decided not to publish the results. Not sure it is a good or bad thing. A mix I suppose. On one hand they realized that public opinion in Canada is against their mandate and on the other this may mean they want to push it through abusing their majority (given by 25% of eligible voters) as usual they don't care about what is right for Canada and the nation but rather what is right for them. What could be other reason that they were supposed to publish the results (May 27) and they haven't done so (yet)?. Another cover up by this government?
Perhaps the opposition could use this against them, and make an issue of the Cons not making the results public.

Joy Smith also wanted to ban online porn last year but nobody listened to her, she just speaks loud but doesn't mean that everyone agrees with her and she has less power than Mackay which I hope would be smarter than her.
Ha! Keep dreaming...

No... they're just mindless automatons who will toe the party line and abuse their majority by ramming unconstitutional legislation through. Like I said, Bedford and her cronies were (and still are) idiots for even thinking that a court challenge might be a good idea. We all better get used to bending over, because this government is going to royally fuck us up the ass!

Heavily biased, value-laden piece in today's Star (Heather Mallick) that blindly paints all johns as "losers" and all prostitutes as "victims" (among other views).
The writer isn't a law maker and is entitled to her 'opinion', but nonetheless, attitudes like hers reflect how much ignorance there is surrounding the sex trade.
