i think the reason why they did not accept debit cards before was because of the prices of their products, their gross profit, and because the line would move faster if people brought in cash instead of entering the data from the debit card, wait for it to go thru, and wait for the customer to punch in his pin. just think about the time lost on that and how that would affect potential revenue.
Timmy's and McDonald's have MasterCard Paypass contactless readers to speed up the transaction. Don't know why I have to use debit card as a method of payment.

BTW, McDonald's accepts Amex card too. Don't recall somebody really loaded to buy a McDonald's coffee by swiping a Centurion Card or one of those premium Charge Card.

Leicester66, if you have had such negative experiences at Timmies, why not go to Second Cup, Timothy's or Starbucks, or perhaps one of the smaller independent coffee shops (there is this one place called the Mocca Choco, on the corner of Dundas and McCaul, right across from the AGO that I've been to once, a nice decent place).

People should really consider giving a chance for smaller places & stores!

* then the stupid flip tab on my tea wouldn't stay closed on my top. grrrrrrrrrrr.
This used to annoy the hell out of me until I figured out that squeezing the two tab holders towards each will make them hold the tab more firmly. Duh.

Re: Debit cards -- Remember, it really hasn't been that long that McDonald's was cash only (a couple of years?)

I've yet to find a coffee shop that can compete in the steeped tea ring with Timmies. I have a little independent coffee house below my condo at home and I like their fancy lattes and brownies (mmm brownies).

But when I want tea - I go to Timmies (and yes - take the risk of ending up with a coffee - yuck :()

Just checked online and you're right. They started around 2004/2005 (or early 2000s)...but it seems only yesterday I thought it was bizarre how no McDonald's I went to accepted debit cards.

Tim Hortons is garbage I agree. So so coffee. Shit food. Third world immigrants behind the counter who can't speak fucking English when I'm in Toronto at work.
i guess i can safely assume that an anal canker like you would complain that a "third world immigant" gets off the boat to immediately collect welfare..so when they get a job , slime like you still complain..
