Great day for Canadian golf yesterday, even if this wasn't the greatest tournament field. Three T7's.

It would have been nice if McQuillan could have been one shot better -- with the large tie at seventh it was worth $40,000-$45,000. He moves up from 140 to 132 on the money list, and is $49.000 outside of 125. Of course that is a moving target- he probably ned another $100,000 in the last two tournaments. But still in much better shape then last week.

Hearn who was fairly certain of getting his card after last week, now has it guaranteed.

Hadwin continues his mystery season. In Six Canadian tour events, he has one top ten (seventh), and missed the cut twice. In four PGA events, he has two top tens, and two other made cuts including the US OPen.

Seems like he is still about $220,000 short of a card for next year. Too bad he could only get into four tournaments this year. I think he gets in next week.

9 Canadians in the Final Stage of Q-School. Top 25 and ties, in the 170 player field, get their cards for next year. Its a six round tournament, with no cuts. The fifth round has now been completed

Very Disappointing so far as it appears that non even one Canadian will get a card.

After three rounds, Brad Fritsch and Adam Hadwin, were in the top 25. In fact, Fritsch a 30ish journeyman, was in the top 10. Stuart Anderson was one shot off the top 25, IIRC. Fritsch and Hadwin had awful fourth rounds. Hadwin had an awful fifth round to follow it up, and stands seven shots out of the top 25.

Right now the closest to the Card are:
Ryan Yip (38th)- 3 shots behind
Stuart Anderson and Brad Fritsch - 4 shots behind

The biggest disappointment is Hadwin. He is Canada's best golf prospect with already two top tens. He is ready for the PGA Tour. It was nice to see him in position midway through, but he followed up with rounds of 76 and 75. Now he may not get preferential Nationawide Tour status for next year.

Adam Hadwin once again struggles at Q-School. A disappointing finish (around 05th in the field).

He has a history in his short career of screwing up at these events.

He is arguably Canada's best golfer, and he will not even have full status in the Nationwide tour next year. (he needed to be top 75 for that). Very dfisappointing that he will not be able to play a full schedule agaunst good opposition next year.

Mike Weir can still use two career earnings exemptions (he has one at least)

LIMITED STATUS
Ames and Mcaquillan would have some limited status because they were not that for from earning there card. (126-150), I think Ames could use a one time career earnings exemption.

Graham Delaet - I think he will have an injury exception for alot of 2012, as he earned his card for 2011, but was injured for most of the year.

But certainly a lack of new blood right now, and with the stalwarts of the past dozen years or so on exemptions -- their time is running out.

It's sort of sad to see David Duval a player that was number one in the world only 12 year ago, and should still be close to his prime on the tour, now only able to get on tour through Q-School.

Mike Weir is now back in the World Golf Rankings after an absence of several months. His ranking on the 2 year weighted scale is now 1136th.

He had not earned any world ranking points in any events for well over two years. His modest 33rd place finish at yesterday's Byron Nelson was his best performance in over two years.

The year has been a struggle again, but at least he has made 4 cuts this year (out of 13 events) -- last year he only made one cut. Its a start.

At least he was able to complete this one; had to withdraw from the previous one due to injury. Had nagging injuries in the last couple of years. Part of his problem is his lack of distance - I think his average drive in in the 260's.

He has had a few nags but he has been relatively healthy since 2012 - of course those major injuries before that may have had a long term impact on his swing.

Distance is an issue but accuracy off the tee is probably larger in his driving woes. He is the least accurate driver on tour-- by a significant amount in 2012. Short and crooked will kill you.
