started his 2009 golf campaign with a third place finish. I think it's going to be a great year for him.

He's made a very good living from golf. That's great every year.

The guy even has wine named after him.

A 3rd place finish is a pretty good start. It was great to see him have a decent final day of a tournament. The last few years for Mike have really sucked, but he still continues to make money.

He is a class act, and I hope that he has a great year!!!

At this stage in Mike Weir's career it's not about money, he has enough of it, it's all about winning another major for him. Him winning another major would be considered a great year.

I think he has the potential to be in the top 10 earners on the circuit this season. His short game is one of the best in the world.

Good start to the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am with a 67, 2 off the lead. What's wrong with Mickelson, shooting a 72?

It is a good start for Mike...I hope he begins to win again. He often can finish high enough to cover his nut...but these guys are competitive and the wins are what really ring their bells.
A major would be nice...and on any given Sunday, he has enough wins, plus a major, that he could handle the pressure on the Sunday back nine.
Hope he....and Steven Ames both do better.

Phil...I think is in a slump, but he is still the darling of the golf coverage. It doesn't seem to matter how far back in the pack he is...the cameras still follow him. Whereas with Mike and the others...you are more than two off the lead and you disappear! Go figure.

I don't think its necessarily a major that would define a great year for Mike. Two wins and top 10 in money, IMO would be a great year for him especially since it would pass George Knudsen for the most wins ever by a Canadian.

He doesn't need the major to have a great year by his standards... but he needs a couple of wins.

I think a goal for him would be to earn an automatic bid for the President's Cup Team, because that in itself means he has a good year (not necessarily great)

2nd Heading for Sunday

Weir is currently 2nd, four shots back
heading to Sunday at Pebble Beach.

He's a good bad weather player
and if the winds and cool temperatures hold tomorrow,
he has a real shot. It would be nice to see him get the win.

As maurice93 says, that win would move him
past Knudson into top spot among Canadian golfers in PGA wins.
None too shabby.:D

Consolation Prize

Too bad rain washed out the final round at Pebble Beach
and Weir lost his chance for the victory.
658G's is a comforting consolation prize though.;)

I was thinking the opposite. It's a good thing that rain washed out the final round. I have not seen the stats from last year, but I remember his choking in the final round on more than one occasion...

Either way... I agree, 658Gs in consolation money is not bad...

Mike Weir had four double bogeys and a triple bogey en route to a career-worst 85, leaving him 22 over, and missing the cut. too bad.
