There haven't been any good players at the top, all jobbers for the most part.
Respectfully disagree, chief. Top end of 2017 is looking mediocre with only Makar & Petersson standing out. 2018 will produce several stars in Dahlen, Svechnikov, Hughes and Tkachuk. 2019 will prove to be the best of the bunch in my opinion. Hughes, Dach, Zegras, Cozens & Byram will all be great but there's a tonne of mid first rounders that will be stars down the road. Too early to judge 2020.

All average and none anyone would pay to see.

Pretty much. The last 4 drafts plus 2021 will have given us good to very good players at the top. That will change in 2022 with Wright and 2023 with Bedard.

When it comes to generational talents it's usually 7-10 years between cycles: Lemieux in 1984, Lindros in 1991, Crosby in 2005 and McDavid in 2015. As great as Matthews is I don't quite consider him generational.
Not sure Lindros belong in the same crowd .

Matthews is only 23. One or more Hart, Art Ross, Rocket and, the CUP of course will help his stature. For what its worth he was ranked 4th in All-star voting last year.

You seem like an astute judge of talent, chief. Tell me, was Teeder Kennedy the greatest Leaf ever? Or was it Hap Day?
I always figure it's David Keon, until proven otherwise.
