The next record with the sun shining brightly on the fresh snow in the back yard.
No sign of any of the usual squirrels yet.
So they must be waiting for the sun to go down a bit
So the top of the snow will crisp a bit, and so not soak them to the skin and leave the insulating fur wet.

The current records is a weird sampler, of polkas, jaunty tunes and snips of classical released by London Records.

It starts out with a set of boucing balls , in one channel, then other, then back and forth. Used to set up balance on your new stereo in late 50's early 60's.

Back them you might just add a new speaker, new amp, and a stereo preamp and keep the rest of the prior mono stuff.
So there was task to set equal gain on two different amps/speakers of different efficency.

Regrettably this one shows signs of being played a lot on a turntable of back them with heavy stylus pressure.

Over the past long weekend worked and completed 2 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles while wife was out finishing the last weekend of her community theatre show run- The Elephant Man.

I listened to:
Milk and Honey - Original Broadway Cast - LP, 1961.
Music by Jerry Herman, Book by Don Appell.

Reissue of 1973 of 1935 mount of George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Original Broadway Cast, LP,

Hello Dolly
Music by Jerry Herman, book by Michael Stewart. Original London cast, LP, mid 60's is my guess.

Andrea Gagnon plays Le Saint Laurent LP, 1977.

On the classical front:
Mahler Syp #2, Berlin Symphony orchestra, conducted by Kubelik LP mid 70's reissue?

Schumann Syp #1, and #4
Same orchestra and conductor as above, 1973 reissue of 1963 recording.

Off the the Windsor memorial service for wifes' aunt over the weekend.
Thrift store shopping as part of that.
16 new to me albums from that little road trip.

My wife is working backstage on a community theatre show in three weeks.
So that will give me 2 just about full weeks of the stereo time without working around the TV shows she loves to watch.

So finally a quiet day to listen to records I have recently picked up.

So far:
Those Were The Days- Ted Heath Orch, 1967 London Phase 4 LP.
Songs from the thirties and forties played wiothout lyrics so you could sing along if you know the tune.

Flight II - The Spitfire Band, 1982 RCA LP.
Swing arrangements of forties big band songs

Soft and Sweet - The Three Sons. 1955 RCA LP
Nice moody instrumentals of a band made up of electric organ, accordion, and guitar backed by a strings orchestra.

Highlights from Last Night of the Proms, BBC orch C Groves conductor and BBC singers chorus 1977 BBC Recordings LP
Live recording of a big show that has been ongoing annually since 1895.
Concert where folks stand , sway and sing along to classics.

Best of Mozart - Academy of St Martins in the Field, Neville Marriner conductor. 1984 Phillips LP.

Farewell to the Greys - Pipes, Drums and Military Band of Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, 1971, RCA L"P

A Christmas Treasure- Julie Andrews and Andre Previn conduction orchestra, likely 70's RCA LP.
Mine has a price tag of $4.40 from KMart on it. Nice Christmas music - it will go into regular rotation once that season comes.

Ravel Bolaro and Borodin Polovtsian Dances
London Festival Orch Stanley Black cond. Likely late 60's/early 70's London Phase 4 LP.

The Worlds Faves of Tenor Arias , Luciano Pavarotti, 1973 London ffrr LP

Last night we were out for dine with friends at Timothy's, on Browns Line in the west end of the 416.
Good meal for not too much money.
Live music there 6 nights a week.
A band we have seen before was playing: Your New Neighbours.

The were really good, sampling from 70's to 2000's hits, with most of the work from the 80's.
Lots of good tunes and energy. Lots of folks up dancing or siting and singing along.

All for $5 band cover charge per person.
Cant be beat, on a fun per $ basis.

First set was 9--10pm the second set 10:30-11:30. There was a third set but both couples were tiring, so we left to hit the hay at midnight.

Not quite in the vein of the thread, but I just wanted to pass along a good listening experience .

I gotta check this place out its pretty close to me. Shocked they would have live music almost every night of the week.
