So this am, sun pouring in the kitchen window.
Metro $3 a bag B fruit and veg shopping from Friday to process down.

4 'green' peppers seed and dice and lay on wax paper on a cookie sheet. Once all 4 peppers diced slot to top of the freezer.
Once frozen, peel off wax paper, zip lock freezer bag up.
Over time use in cooking through the winter when said peppers are $3 each .

Bag of 2 grapefruit and 2 big oranges.
Again seed, and dice and feed into a 6 cup mason jar to store in the frigde.
Last week similar effort was 4 limes and 3 lemons to a 4 cup mason jar.

Next weekend they will go into a double batch of 4 fruit marmelade I make.
It reminds me of how the store bought stuff from about 1968 was, with identifiable pieces of fruit.

While this was being progressed, listened to the original cast recording LP of the 1947 Lerner and Loewe Broadway musical Brigadoon.

Then because I was in a Scottish highland mood, I followed up with:
Pipes and Drums and Regimental Band of the Black Watch- Royal Highland Regiment- Highland Pageantry LP 1959.
I grew up in a town with an annual Highland Festival, so it is fun to listen to this stuff once in a while
Certainly not an every day sort of genre for me though.

Not sure what mood will strike me to listen to the afternoon.
I went thrift shopping on my way home Thursday after visiting my mum, who is 93 and in a LTC home up in Newmarket.
400SB had 2 left lanes closed due to a crash at 401 intersection, advance signage warned.

So I bailed at Hwy 7, and hit VV's in Vaughan and Brampton before hitting a mother lode of old records at a Sally Ann store in Brampton.
$60 for 22 LP records, so damage was not too bad.
Found 5 more London Phase 4 records to add to the collection of that label that I am building.

I've always been meaning to hit up some VV locations as I know many find some great gems. Good on you mate. Been listening to some Ace as of late leading up to his new one that he released this past Friday called 10000 Volts.

Backstory on my liking classical music.

I used to be the 'tape monkey' for a figure skating school in my younger teen years.
Playing the skaters music programs during practice time.

Among other Brian Orser trained there.
It was back before Brian Orser won his first Olypmic medal

Uschi, a choreographer, was brought up one summer to add to other coaches efforts, to help him be more expressive in his skating.
So it started with more expressive music - classical music, to skate to.
Her husband was a music distributor or something.
She was always listened to tapes he mailed her for ideas.
She would rough dub segments from one cassette player to another to rough cut a program together.

Once they had agreed, the LP's would arrive and be handed to me.
I would have to listen to them to find the snippets of sometimes like 15 seconds per LP that she had strung together.

Once I found them I would record them from LP to reel to reel tape

About 1983 I had a Teac 3340S reel to reel.

I would hand rock the reels in its edit mode and mark the back of the tape with a grease pencil to mark beats in the music.
Then cut the tape to join to the next segment so the beats would line up.

So for a while the musical skating program was a bunch of tapes segments taped to the wall of my room.

Sometimes I would vary the speed of the turntable when making the tape so music tempos (BPM in modern slang) would align.
Then audition the draft changes I would dub to cassette for approval.

Once all was agreed to, the reel to reel tapes were assembled, spliced together and recorded off to working cassettes.
I would also borrow a reel to reel use at a local radio station to make the 2 track reel to reel to spec of international competition needs in effect demands.
That Teac was beast to lug around though.

The high point of all of this was when I was away at uni.
I was in the student coffee house watching Orser compete at 1984 Winter Olympics.
When the music I had assembled in my bedroom the prior summer was played over the TV as he skated my spine tingled.

Between when I got home, and when wife came home and turned on TV news.

A lesser known classical composer- Franz Schmidt - Symphony 4 in C Maj.
Viennna Philharmonic - Zubin Mehta conductor LP 1972.

Kind of a dark brooding piece

He had lifelong poor health, but that meant he had more time to compose, after he stopped playing in symphonies after doing that from age 22 for 18 years.
He wrote Sym 4 it when he was about 58 years old, after the death of his daughter.
He had a spiritual and physical breakdown as he wrote this piece.

So a different sort of tune than you usually associate with Viennese composers.

So this one was a lark I picked up for a couple of reasons.
1: Sometimes my wife and or I get involved doing sound design of community theatre productions. Some times she is the director and I get voluntold.
Incidental background, between scenes, intermission, overture lead in to set mood, etc.
Even with the web with a zillion sound clips, having LP and CD albums to flip through to get ideas from is an advantage.
And music from many eras of recorded music can be helpful as well.

2: The instrument reminds me of going to Leaf games and the old day of HNIC when you could hear the organ, and not wall to wall ads.

So this one is:
Leonard Leigh on the Wurlitzer pipe organ playing The Roaring HiFi Twenties ( as in 1920's) LP 1958.

Tonight's listening
As the cold front advancing wind whips and whistles through the limbs of the trees.
And the outside cover of the stove vent flaps back and forth.
On the turntable I have:

Debussy's Greatest Hits. LP

Undated, but cover art style suggests late 70's as original issue.
But it came with an OEM plastic sleeve liner, so I would put this particular pressing into the 80's

Part of CBS Masterworks series. Varied orchestras and conductors on these disks.

I have a fair number of other composers from this series.
They give you a fair sampling of the 'hits' and sampling of the breadth of their output as well

Was outside sitting enjoying weather and view while listening to Santana’s Abraxas album, and when the winds started to howl, ‘Singings Winds and Crying beasts” was sounding incredible together with the sounds of the wind.

Not to disturb the subject, however, as a related sidebar, what Technologies do you use to channel the music from your various mediums to your ears (brains).

Seeing technologies play a great part in it’s enjoyment.

Currently use either Sennheiser or Bose.

I have way too many audio systems around the house.

-In my back yard heated /ac insulated all seasons 100 sq ft shed/man cave.
A 70's era sansui 8080 receiver and a pair of Paradigm speakers. Early JVC direct drive tt.

This summer I plan to place a pair of all plastic AV speakers speakers at the hot tub driven from this system.
With a Bluetooth receiver so you can dj via the smart phone in its wet bag on the tub edge.

-Living room - 2010's era Yammy 5 channel a/v receiver. Pair of infinity's for front, paradigm's for rear.
Technics SL-M1 direct drive turn table. CD play thru DVD player. Or apple box for streaming tunes from online.

-Basement - late 90's era Denon AVR-3600 A/V receiver, that weighs about 60lb's so honest power in it.
70's era Tandy speakers - 2 10" bass driver in each and 1" thick cabinets. I have re-coned and new caps in the cross over.
No model shown 60's era blaupunkt back speakers, reconed.
Early Pioneer PL-518 direct drive turntable with rotted off feet sitting on foam cut from an old truck seat.
CD player first Sony DVD player released in NA in early 90's , with separate audio laser for playing CD's - sounds sweet and still works great.

-Front office:80's era Realistic STA-111 receiver with output EQ specifically tuned to drive Minimus 7 speakers in office or kitchen. JVC direct drive TT.
FM transmitter off this system so can listen to tunes pulling weeds or cutting the grass wearing a walkman, etc.
I slave an older laptop off this system running Audacity to spin .wav of mp3 files to play in the car, etc. from LP's or CD.

A couple of CD players that move around if the rig I am listening to does not have one on it at the moment.

Then even a receiver and speakers for when our in the garage.
Also in garage - a PA amp that drives a 70V line system to 7 small all weather 2 way speakers that sit on posts at ear height when sitting out on the patio.
Usually fed by my wife streaming from her phone and a Bluetooth receiver hooked as one of the inputs.
Lets you enjoy low level tunes, because you are never far from a speaker when chilling on the patio.
Yet no one hears much from more than 10' from the patio.

Other than 1 turntable all of this has been sourced from:
Ewaste recycling event salvages
or garage sales
or free at curb finds

And my knowledge of how to make unloved systems work again.

WoW, Mind bugling. And I thought I was bad, as I never could convince myself to get rid of any audio system’s pieces

I have been sick with a cold and my ears consequently feel like stuffed with cotton from the nasal congestion.
Plus my sleep schedule is messed as a side effect. So I have not been in the mood for music.
I will get back to listening and posting soon
