LOL.I've totally changed my mind. I love the regular season, and hate the playoffs----LOL
So do I.I have a feeling the Leafs will lose in the 1st round this year!!
The first round pick wasn't for Laughton but for his salary and cap hit retention. Same with Brandon Carlo and Jake McCabe.I didn't understand the big deal made about Laughton before the trade deadline, and I understand it even lesss now. I don't mind them trading Grebenkin, but the 2027 first rounder will hurt.
The regular season means nothing.
Nope, it's the playoffs that mean nothing!!
Based on these contradictory statements, it's your posts that mean nothing.Who cares!! The regular season means nothing!!
As I stated the first round pick is compensation for salary retention. How else do you think they were able to fit both players contracts under their tight cap. It was the same when Dubas acquired McCabe and Lafferty a couple of seasons ago at the deadline.I could be wrong, but it says in this article that the Scott Laughton trade included the Leafs 2027 1st round draft pick??
March 07, 2025
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has acquired forward Scott Laughton, a fourth-round selection in 2025 NHL Draft and a sixth-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft from Philadelphia in exchange for Toronto’s first-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft and forward Nikita Grebenkin. The Flyers are retaining 50% of Laughton’s salary.
Laughton, 30, has recorded 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 60 games with the Philadelphia Flyers this season. In 661 career NHL games, The Oakville, ON native has registered 265 points (106 goals, 159 assists) and 386 penalty minutes while adding 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 24 playoff games.
Laughton was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round (20th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Then please stop interfering with other people's conversations with your "regular season means nothing" assertions. You've done it on repeated occasions. Please try and have a bit of a sense of humor......LMAO
Actually they're 10th, you missed Columbus, Winnipeg, and Vegas.Berube's play style is dump and chase, less risk and turnovers going back for odd man rushes.
Under this system Leafs are still the 6th highest scoring team in the league on a per game basis although it may not appear that way. They're ahead of teams like Oilers and Panthers. All top 8 are playoff calibre teams.
They supposedly now have the best D grouping, goalie tandem, and bottom 6 depth forwards they've ever had under the Matthews era. Treliving went all in by trading 2 first round picks and 2 prospects. They don't have a 1st round pick for the next 3 drafts. They were probably willing to give up even more for Brayden Schenn.

Bingo. It makes no sense whatsoever from an economic or public relations point of view. They want to raise prices but then not spend the money on their homegrown superstar? How far will that fly with fans. Will Rogers eat the loss if Vlady is not resigned? There's only a %30 chance will the unknown will work out. If the Jays let him walk they lose all credibility.
I hope mitch sees how fat Vladdy is getting. Look at those biceps and he's not even flexing them.Vlady working hard while Teoscar busts his balls.
But you were the one telling us what we should and shouldn't be talking about.Who made you the Boss---LOL
He's looking pretty good, though. And entering what should be the prime years of his career.Well, Vladdy better get in shape, if he wants to sucker the Jays into signing him to a 14 yr contract......LMAO
That's an opinion. But I'd say that somebody who will probably have the 3rd largest contract in the history of baseball, is most likely a superstar. Stars don't get that but superstars do.Vladdy is not a superstar. Vladdy is nowhere close to players such as Judge and Ohtani etc
Agreed. I didn't phrase it that way by accident. I try to remain realistic."What should", is the key part of your above statement!!
Nobody said otherwise. I simply said that it was an opinion which implies that it's not fact as you seem to infer.Well, I have just as much of a right to my opinion, as you do.
A debate about a debate. Gotta love it.That's debatable, about how realistic, you really are....LMAO
Ahh. You should say "the numbers will not lie". So we're still talking opinion. We don't have all the facts.Nope, the difference is if Vladdy has a good season, or not?? "Numbers don't lie."
I understand the worry. We've seen how it turns out for them in the end. But Tampa Florida Dallas and Colorado are also doing the same. If these picks end up being bottom 5 who cares but if they're top 5 it's Lindos Niedermeyer Luongo Seguin Hamilton all over again.I totally admit, I don't understand all this "salary cap" stuff. What I do know is that the Leafs are trading away a lot their first round draft choices!!
