The Boston series was very high scoring. Florida was the highest scoring team last year. By a wide margin actually.
This season Boston was 1 of 2 teams that scored more than 300 goals.
Bobrorsky against Boston in 5 games was 3.94 GGA 0.891 SV%
Against Leafs in 5 games he was 1.89 GGA 0.943 SV%
Against Carolina in 3 games so far he is 0.69 GGA 0.978 SV%
Boston had key injuries to Bergeron and Krejci and Ullmark didn't play game 7.
Game 7 went to OT so it was that close. Boston had the lead with a minute left in the 3rd period.

Management and coaching are what the Leafs need to focus on. Florida beat Toronto because of two things, lack of secondary players and they were out coached.
Many GMs' have the same challenge, they have a few highly paid stars and need to build a team around them. There is another thread that showed the top paid players between Florida & Toronto. The difference was only 4 million$. That's not much of a difference. The Florida GM (and other GM's) are more skilled at building a team to support those key players, and that is where Dubas has failed. Dubas even tried to change the "grit" factor at the trade deadline and that only resulted in winning the first round (against a tired Tampa team that limped into the playoffs).
Per the actual series, the Florida coaching staff designed a game plan on shutting down the core 4 and Keefe was unable to counter that strategy.
A stronger supporting cast and a reliable goalie (I cannot understand why they thought Murray was the answer!!!), perhaps a new coaching strategy and this group of men could bring it all home.
Put this core 4 on any other team (replace their core 4 stars), and that team is a legitimate cup contender.
Career playoff stats for the Leafs:
Nylander 50 games 17 goals 40 pts -1 TOI 17:54
Marner 50 games 10 goals 47 pts +9 TOI 21:51
Matthews 50 games 22 goals 44 pts even TOI 21:39
Tavares 31 games 11 goals 22 pts -9
For MNM their stats aren't as good as regular season but between them are relatively comparable to how they stack up. Matthews being the best goal scorer and Marner being the best point producer. Marner's +9 also stands out. Marner and Matthews also play more minutes so have more of an impact.
Of the core 4 Tavares looks to be the weakest. Especially given his salary. His -9 stands out. He's more a PP specialist.
In only his second season Marner was fantastic in the first series against Boston. He played with Tavares and Hyman against the SuperLine and stopped them even strength. In 7 games Marner had 2 goals and 9 pts and was +2. Boston's PP was unstoppable though.
As for Nylander his best series was against Montreal. In 7 games he scored 5 goals and had 8 pts. He was also +3

Just about every forward had disappeared against Florida in the last two rounds. Can you say Red Hot Goalie?

Time is of the essence to name a new GM to deal with the Matthews/Nylander/Marner situation before July 1st. After that date they will not be able to freely trade either Matthews or Nylander if they are not going to resign with the Leafs. Such decisions could also impact on their plan on Marner if one of the core three is to be moved for upgrades elsewhere. The new GM will need to start negotiations right away with these players and to seek potential trade partners.
Then there are the other 10 free agents to deal with. I hope their no 1 priority is to bring Schenn back. Rielly seemed to bring out the worse in any partner he played with but Schenn not only avoided that, he was also able to bring out the best in Rielly. He also brings physicality that the team so badly lacks.

Nylander has always been a strong producer. Not every forward on every team is the ultimate "two-way" player. He is also fun to watch as his puck handling and skating are amongst the best in the league. Marner is similar (and a little better) from a puck handling/skating perspective, however he excels in other areas (i.e. penalty killing).
The core is good and yes the Leafs overpaid for them as a group. But an experienced GM would have seen that and maybe not signed a Tavares.
What amazes me is how Reilly's game changed when Schenn came along. To me, a good GM and coach would have figured that out before the trade deadline.
I think Matthews is going to be asking for upwards of $15M and 3 years, the Leafs will ask for more term.
