Man you're dense ! There's a sharp drop off - # 798 is a minus 10. Leetch is just slightly short of that. Of course he's not the very last in the League ! But the point is he's at the very bottom. His plus/minus stat sucks the big one. He's an offensive defenseman - and that comes at a price. Against a team with wheels he'll get burned every time. Toronto also needs more jam up the middle - a Brendan Witt who can play down low and clear the ice for Leetch. No talent like that on the team now. So know what you're talking about before you speak, Bucko !

Ross, you must be spastic ! Leetch is a defensive liability. He's an offensive defenseman. His plus/minus stat stinks worse than .. well let's not go there. "Frequency histogram" ?? Yeah I had figured you out to be a pocket calculator wielding ectomorph. Nuff said !

After last night's game, Leetch is sitting at -4, how long do you think before he makes it on the plus side, 2 games? 3 tops..
not something I'd bet against, the next 3 games are against Buffalo, Florida and Pittsburgh..

+/- only matters in fantasy leagues..

Gonchar's the defensive liability, I'd rather have the 2 time Norris winner..

Whether Leetch is worth the price depends on whether he is the final piece that the Leafs need to become a genuine cup contender. If he is, the price of giving up future NHLers (leave alone draft picks, high or low, that the Leafs don’t seem to have a good record of utilizing anyway) is worth it. A case in point is the “last minute” addition of Ray Bourge (spelling not sure) to the Avalanche a couple of years ago when the Avalanche won the Stanley. Leetch is as good as Bourge, the problem, IMHO, is that the Leafs are still a couple of players away from the talented Avalanche then. Leetch should help our beloved Leafs further its course into the playoff rounds, but I seriously doubt that the team would win it all this season, with or without Leetch.

Now that JFJ has paid the price to have Leetch, he should go all out to obtain a solid defensive defenseman. Considering the aging group of Leafs’ current roster and the team’s depleted future prospects and draft picks, it is “now or another 3 decades” for them. Lets go all out now and worry about suffering for another 3 decades or so later. We, Toronto fans, have patience.

For a guy who can’t skate 50 ft without falling flat on his ass, I can’t believe I’m talking professional hockey!! LOL.

I dunno how much of an indicator +/- is of defensive ability but all I know is that I'd take guys like Pronger (-7), Federov (-5), Brewer(-3), Jagr (-4) etc... in a heartbeat

Man you guys need to be educated. No use comparing plus minus stats of defensemen against other positions. That makes no sense at all. The point you're all missing, especially Ross the ectomorph, is that Toronto desperately needs to beef up its defense otherwise you might as well book your tee off time now. Leetch can't contribute much in that department. Belfour goes down, or has another crappy night like he did tonight against the Sabres (who you've yet to defeat this year) and you're out in the first round AGAIN. Leetch's plus minus stinks. There's no two ways about it.

I don't dispute your point that the Leafs could use a solid defensive oriented D-man. I also don't disagree that Leetch is known more as an offensive player. But to justify your case by pointing to a guys +/- rating on a crap team is where I disagree. If you want to say that Leetch doesn't fill quite our need for better defense, then fine. But to say he sucks because he's -4 is not right. Pronger is -5 on a winning team that should make the playoffs but I'm sure you don't feel that he sucks defensively.. or do you?
