Let him live in shame for however long he has left on this planet. And demand better from our um.

Probably at home trying on his old uniform right now.

This is how you think? The guy is 98 years old, and is very close to end of life. You are going to extradite him to Poland and put him through hell just for optics? Regardless of what he did, its too late. Leave the guy alone, let him live his life out.
Tell me you can't read without telling me. No, I don't support a Nazi group as you support illiteracy and putting words in people's mouths. I support getting the actual facts and finding out if this individual actually did anything worth condemning. The only actual evidence I've seen says he joined them to fight Rusians invading his country. If the US invaded Canada and the only opposition was the Proud Boys, then people would join them just to fight back. War makes strange bedfellows, and your complets lack of judgment is what is of concern here. Grow the F upSo you support a Nazi group that is known to have killed Jews. Not surprising that you're defending him.
What atrocity did he commi? Do you have any evidence or do you just parrot what others tell you like a lemming? No. To make him answer for the atrocities he committed. Murder is murder if it was yesterday or 80 years ago.
Put him through hell for the lives he didn't allow to live their lives on this earth.
It seems like the gov't of Poland feels the same way.
Wouldn't that be something, if anyone actually looked into what he did rather than what a group he joined did years prior?I know the guy is 98 but has anybody tried to interview him? Did he hate Russians or Jews or both? Or does he remember his own name?
There is if you didn't actually commit any atrocities. What I've read is he joined them because they were the only opposition to the Russians in Ukraine. No one has said anything showing he was part of their ear,jer efforts against Jews. That omission is telling. If all he did was fight communists just as bad as the Nazis, he should be given a parade. There's no walking away from the atrocities that the SS committed.
Remember John Demjanjuk?
I'm ashamed of our "leaders" who go nuts over the Speaker's lack of due diligence, then immediately turn to condemn a man that no one has any evidence did anything other than kill Russians as bad as the Nazis.Or.
Let him live in shame for however long he has left on this planet. And demand better from our um.

That's par for the course with some members here. Disagree with anything and "they" will get on their soapbox and scream Nazi, racist, bigot, transphobic, Islamophobic, etc. Impossible to have an intelligent and rational debate with those members. This is standard operating procedure. Disagree with anything and you're a Nazi. See Godwin's Law.

You do know that in WWII the Russians were our Allies? Right? and BTW the Waffen SS was responsible for their brutality! He was fighting the Red Army, little known chapter in WWII history. Question picking fights with someone who wasn't clearly antisemitic, esp. what, 80 years later?
Exactly, even Pollievre doesn't seem to understand this. The people so proud of our country and its rules don't even know what the rules are. These are the people who criticize immgrants but would fail an immigrant citizenship test.Everyone seems to be forgetting that the speaker of the house isn't part of a party, they are elected by the full house and everyone has to agree.
You do know that the Rusians were our enemy and Nazi ally when the war started, but we got over it eh? And that Russa was the enemy of Ukraine, the country in question, where the Soviets starved more Ukrainians than the Nazis killed Jews? As I said, it was a mes. And stil, no one has any evidence this individual did anything. BTW, there is a monument honouring people like him who fought "our ally" in Edmonton eh? Apparently we weren't outraged at that. You do know that in WWII the Russians were our Allies? Right? and BTW the Waffen SS was responsible for their brutality!
Yes, the whole country should apologize!! This was a major gaffe!! Remember the adage that if you don't understand history you are doomed to repeat it!! Understanding history is the key to who we are.Video shows BOTH sides of the house of commons applauding including the oppostition leader.
Does this mean that everyone there should appologize?
Put aside the history of the Galacia unit because many don't know the actual history of the unit..
Well in Russian history they starved everybody!! so I get that...It is one thing to fight for Ukrainian freedom as did many in WWII in the French underground. It is very different to join the Waffen SS who were actively wanting to exterminate the Jews and kill Russians. You do know that the Rusians were our enemy and Nazi ally when the war started, but we got over it eh? And that Russa was the enemy of Ukraine, the country in question, where the Soviets starved more Ukrainians than the Nazis killed Jews? As I said, it was a mes. BTW there has been significant outrage from the Jewish community regarding the monuments that you speak about in Edmonton! Maybe now they will listen? You do know that the Rusians were our enemy and Nazi ally when the war started, but we got over it eh? In the case of Nazis, immediate non-condemnation and an apathy for bringing him to justice = tacit approval if not admiration. When did I express admiration? I expressed indifference.
Do you have a link to where you read this? What I've read is he joined them because they were the only opposition to the Russians in Ukraine.
Although I understand your perspective the key issue in this case is the way that the Nazis trained and indoctrinated anyone that worked with them. The "Final Solution" was all about exterminating a race of people. I was not trying to be over simplistic about the situation but I would find it hard to believe that any of the Waffen SS did not understand the depth of what they were involved in.For many people it wasn't about killing Jews. I don't know about the Ukrainian context as I am not that knowledgeable about the history, but for example, Subhas Chandra Bose (who is a highly regarded freedom fighter in India), who was the first leader of the Indian Army, back during British times, opposed Gandhi's non-violent principles, and actually met Hitler and teamed up with him. Not because he hated Jews, but because he could fight the British and work against them to defeat them, so he could free India. Many Indian POW, who fought in the British-Indian army, also fought for the Nazis. The histories from that time are complex, so being too simplistic without a view of historical context, is not useful in my opinion. Again, I am not sure about Hunka and his motivations for joining the SS, but I think we do need to understand the context a bit better.
