I don't know how often Major League Baseball players receive a paycheck, but it's probably only once or twice per month, and likely on the last day of the month, and possibly also on or about the 15th. It's quite possible that a team acquiring a player on waivers today might be on the hook to pay half or all of the player's August salary. That's just ripe for an ethnic joke, but I won't go there...
I believe it's set to 1/6 of their annual salary.

Most def, on keeping Jansen.

Schneider (or was it Atkins? Does it really matter...) also commented the catcher position has delivered 20HR and 85 RBI (actuallly it's slightly more) without actually saying that 16 of the HR's and 51 of the RBI's are Jansen's. That being said Kirk had a good day today. But still, unless he goes on an Allstar tear for the next 4+ weeks (6 weeks if they make the playoffs), it's all moot
Back in 2022 Jays were gonna trade Jansen for a SP, but then Bassitt became available so they kept him.
Good thing too, his defence might not be as good as Moreno's but his bat and clutch-hitting make up for it

The Toronto Blue Jays had the idea to trade catcher Danny Jansen for a starting pitcher, but a deal is no longer imminent after the club signed right-hander Chris Bassitt, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Toronto was reportedly expected to deal a backstop this offseason due to a strong surplus with Jansen, All-Star Alejandro Kirk, and top prospect Gabriel Moreno

I hope they dump Yimi Garcia that dude can't get it done when it counts. Batters have a .319 OBP when they face him.

Probably not. He just reached his innings # meaning he is under contract for next year. Best to keep him up and use him for trade bait in the offseason. You can't trade him for a bag of balls if he is in the minor (assuming he clears waivers)

Probably Jackson or Francis, both still have options.
Those two are OK for now as the roster size was expanded today.

When Swanson comes back they may lost a spot. Or if Manoah comes back which I don’t think is likely.

It is pleasing to see all the names now in thr Jays pen now vs beginning of year — Green, Hicks, Cabrera, Francis, Jackson. Francis and Jackson have been pleasant veteran low end leverage guys, Cabrera was acquired for nothing.

Beginning of the year the pen had guys like Cimber, Pop, Bass, Pearson none of which have been good except for short stretch. Also add Ryu who is more effective than Manoah.

Unfortunately nothing was done to improve the offence at all, and now that they are getting hit with injuries which was not that big an issue for most of the year it’s an even bigger problem.

I’m too busy being sick watching Guerrero round the bases after hitting his 20th like it was his 50th. 🤮

Like shut the fuck up buddy as you rub noses with the elite and socialize like you’re an all-star……. oh yeah, he was an all-star and the home run derby champion. Easy to forget.

On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Greece
Yankees dressing 5 rookies tonight against Verlander and the Astros.

Hope they pull it out and help the Jays but those are some long odds.

Be that the Jays are still playing meaningful ball.

Damn. He was Mr. Clutch this year. Does this mean Varsho goes behind the plate?
To me, that’s the only real way the Blue Jays can justify the trade and the value to this point. Start using him behind the plate. Although I don’t know the exact numbers, but I know his run saved percentage in the outfield is probably going to be the best of all time for a Bluejay.

Those kinds of stats mean fuck all to me especially when you watch a team and it’s frustrating because they don’t perform, and they lose.

Let’s hope they get hot in September finally, and shut us all up. No more criticizing. Let’s just sit back and watch good baseball. 👍

It’s been said before, but boy is Matt Devlin a huge step down from Dan Shulman doing the play by play. It just feels like he is out of his comfort zone when he’s not doing the Raptors. Makes a lot of mistakes, doesn’t seem certain about the player’s names, has mystifying delays while speaking. Ben Wagner would be much better when Shulman takes time off.
