Jays have agreed to a deal with FA Kevin Kiermaier.
Well, he's a veteran left handed bat, but offensively he's not that great. He's great outfielder with speed to fill void of Teo, but he's often injured the last few years.

The Blue Jays lost so much more in Theo and this is what makes me nervous. I feel like they lost a real clubhouse presence. I feel like they lost an older brother to Vlady and others.

I don’t know anymore. I give up lol.

If he's healthy, (Kiermaier had off season hip surgery, and is expected to be healthy for Opening Day), he's an offensive and defensive upgrade on Jackie Bradley Jr.

Kevin Kiermaier career stats

He's basically Kevin Pillar, offensively and defensively, with a worse beard.

Jays have signed FA Chris Basitt to 3 year 63 million $ deal.
He went 15-9 with 3.42 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with the Mets last year.
Seems like a good solid starter, hopefully Jays can resign Rod Serling.

Potential rotation:

Manoah
Gausman
Berrios
Stripling
Basitt

I'd like to see them go after Bryan Reynolds of the Pirates for center field. He has a career OPS of around .850. 27 HRs last year. He's decent defensively. And he's requested a trade. And his salary is a very manageable $6.75M.

Their 2 main catchers both had OPS in the .500's., so they could use one of our three. It would be a big upgrade. Their GM, Ben Cherington, used to work in the Blue Jays front office.

With Reynold's salary, I suspect that they'd still be able to sign Stripling instead of losing every 5th game with Kikuchi/White.

Bassit was probably the best option left on the table. He will be 34 soon but has a history of pitching a lot of innings. Will likely slot in as #3 or 4 depending on how well Berrios pitches. Not a bad signing if Jays make moves to fill other holes and try to win now.

I think you mean to say he doesn't have a history of pitching a lot of innings.

He's only gone over 180 once and his second highest is 157

What they are getting is a late blooming control pitcher in a homer friendly Rogers Centre.

Those long fly balls that would die at the wall in Oakland and N.Y. will not have the same luxury in Toronto.

That's a lot of coin to pay in my opinion.

Biggest key here is the fact he's a switch hitter and the Jays are desperate for a LH bat. Wasn't sure if I should even respond encase there's any grammatical mistakes. I know what a big issue that is in your world.

Not really...

In today's market, 21 million a year for a pitcher with a winning record is a good price. Even if his numbers decline a bit because of some extra HR's at Skydome, it's still a reasonable deal and you didn't have to lock him in to a long term deal.

You're right that his total innings pitched stats aren't overly impressive. I like that he had 19 Quality Starts starts in 2022 and 16 in 2021.

He induces soft contact. The exit velocity of batters against him is about 87 mph which ranks in the best 95th percentile in baseball.

The cost of pitching, like groceries, has gone way up. He was projected to make $20M, which is pretty much what he got. The Jays did not overpay.

Any more criticisms to be discounted?

I like what Stripling brought the table last year. Plus the team knows exactly what he is and what he can be.

They didn't extend him a qualifying offer so I'm guessing they evaluated Bassit as the better fit.

Jays ain’t going any where in 2023
I’m not too happy with this general manager regime at the moment. I feel like they slept on a lot of situations this off-season.
