The Jays have the best catching tandem in the Majors. No chance Atkins wanted to break it up.

Both are excellent at managing pitcher with Jansen a slightly better pitch caller. Kirk may currently be the best defensive catcher in baseball, his pick off ratio must be extremely high. It was the law of averages for Atkins, so he traded Moreno.

Also c runs the bases like a graceful gazelle - reminiscent of Devon White.

That he traded Moreno instead of El Capitan tells me the Jays are all in this year

Also, El Capitan is 23 and Jansen 28 so they are set behind the plate with the best tandem in baseball

The Hernandez trade was because they need to sign their top stars this year
and they could not sign everyone so someone had to go and it was the weak defensive link

Hernandex OPS is 439 with 700 being average with an ugly 31-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio while
Swanson has struck out 14 batters and has allowed just two earned runs over 11 2/3 innings so trade looks good so far

HERNANDEZ IS ONE OF THE GAMES BEST HITTER WHEN HOT WHEN HE IS NOT HE STRIKES OUT A LOT,
AND IS A LIABILITY ON DEFENSIVE AND RUNNING THE BASES

I saw that the Jays have moved up from 21st last year to 2nd in defensive runs saved this year.

A great defese makes pitching better in ways subtle

It allows the starters to go further which saves the pen

Also, the pitchers are not stressed out making every pitch perfect as the defense
can save them

Basically, they are playing good old-fashioned fundamental baseball, especially when combined with their vastly improved baserunning.

Manoah did not look good yesterday, but somehow they eked out a hard fought win. I wish the Leafs fought that hard. LOL

Were you (or did you) sitting or have a chance to see the new outfield sitting/standing area?

I like how you can move around and also catch replays on the monitors that are broadcasting the game (the jumbo-tron has shitty replays).

I did check it out. It was awesome. I was behind the plate area, but I entered in through gate three. Which took us to level one of the outfield district that I saw. Pretty amazing. Didn't have a chance to try the poutine hotdog lol. I checked out both bullpens as I was making my way around. I'm going to a number of games this year. Ticketmaster is so goddamn addictive. I need to delete that stupid app. Costing me a fortune.

....and I'm going to a game in Detroit when Toronto visits in July. And I'm going to a game in Los Angeles because I have to go there this summer to see family, and I'm seeing the Blue Jays there in July as well. I have family that's very high up in the Dodgers organization. Pretty cool shit. My next game is against the Yankees next month and I need to get myself a poutine hotdog lol.

Surprisingly, the Blue Jays are on an impressive winning streak right now. Varsho and Brandon Belt are easy out invisible..

Anyone know why Buck Martinez is missing from the broadcasts?
Buck’s probably just taking some well deserved time off. Joe Siddall is a more than adequate replacement. Jays watchers don’t know how good they have it with the crew of Shulman, Martinez and Siddall. Way better than what I hear on other teams telecasts.

My thoughts on Kikuchi

A big reason for his turnaround this year is a significant drop in his walk rate.
Last season, Kikuchi was handing out free passes 12% of the time. This season? Just 5%.
He’s also changed his pitch mix , leaning less often on his fastball and bumping up the usage of his slider and splitter.

I’m skeptical Kikuchi holds on to the sort of numbers he’s putting up over his first five starts

Huge red flag is his 97% left on base percentage, this luck is gonna drop esp when he gives up two homers every nine innings

That likely results in enough improvement on last year to make him a everyday starter, but I still think he stays
number 5 on the list and he will be invisible in ther playoffs

Siddall insight is excellent.

But, he does not have the right charisma to be a premeir sportscaster as the public wants a personality

Why do you think Don Cherry was so popular?

Some Jays watchers DO know how good we have it.

Daulton is only 5’10” tall, I thought he’d be bigger.
Apparently that is one of the reasons why he was shifted positions from catcher. A lot of baseball executives, coaches and scouts prefer taller catchers but I've never heard a great explanation. I was shifted from catcher when playing competitive ball as a teen for that very reason. This makes Kirk's journey even more special.

Even though the Jays have overcome a 4-0 deficit and are now leading 8-4, it doesn't change the fact that MLB neeeds to implement robo umps behind the plate ASAP. One bad call can totally change the outcome of a game depending on the situation. Carlson's bad call in the 1st had me steamed and would have irreversible impacts most of the time. If the technology is not quite ready then MLB should invest in it.

I'm surprised John Schneider has the record that he has. Very questionable bullpen moves.

I understand not pitching Romano and Swanson because they needed to rest. However several of the pitch calls were questionable for each of today's relievers. Not sure who wears this one. Kirk, Schneider, Walker? Bass has been totally ineffective all year and may end up being the mop up guy.
