A 12 year old little league player who gets picked off would say "I screwed up, I am so sorry" (and might even cry). A 24 year old alleged star says "it is what it is and I will hit the ball hard next at bat". Accountability? Responsibility?

In other news, Gabriel Moreno has become a star but apparently was injured last night. He and Gurriel move on in the playoffs.
The 12 year old would say “I was safe” and his coach would yell “brutal call” to the umpire.

Yes and exactly what happened in the game. Vlad lay with his hand on the bag claiming he was safe and instead of yelling "brutal call" Schneider did the MLB equivalent and had the call reviewed by New York.

And all the while we all knew he was picked off at second.

Holy shit after seeing this, whoever made this happen or allowed it to happen, they should be fired.

I am assuming that Merrifield won't be back. But he could do the franchise a big favour by calling out the big failures, the over hyped cheerleader Guerrero in particular. Give Vlad something to get mad about (he wasn't mad about being picked off) and maybe that will get him going instead of the baby treatment he has got.

It’s starting to feel an awful lot like Vladimir will not be part of the Blue Jays long-term plans. He better have a monster year next year, or I think they might let him walk. Everyone is scrutinizing him completely, which is deserved.

…, please, somebody please sign a reunion with Gurriel and Hernandez,…This was the fresh exciting lineup flavour we needed …. we were on the right path. God dammit can the baseball gods hear me now? Lol

In the post-game analysis on TV, the general consensus was that Schneider was not the one to make the call. It was pre-determined that Kikuchi would come in early. Joe Siddall said it's good to have a plan but you have to actually watch the game.

I wonder if the big-heads will man up and have Schneider's back and admit that the decision to pull Berrios should not be on Schneider.
The more I listen to analytical feedback on this move, the more people say it was Schneider’s decision to overturn the bad recommendation to pull Berrios. I’m not sure if he is really given this leniency.

They'll be sorry if they trade him or let him walk. The best thing they can do is put someone good behind him consistantly in the batting order. Also, a couple of more hispanic players on the team will probably spark him.

Funny how we had exactly what we need. That Varsho trade, in hindsight, is probably the worst in Jays history. I mean aside from Roger Clemens demanding a trade and getting a bag of balls and jar of pine tar for him lol. Let’s give Arizona everything why don’t we. If Ross Atkins is still here after the disaster that was the 2023 season, the best thing he can do to redeem himself is sign Gurriel and Hernandez. Use Guerrero as a mantal piece and bring them here while he still has that star power to attract these guys for a reunion. Let Chapman, Kiermaier, Merrifield, Belt, Ryu.etc all walk. sign Guriel and Hernández, Biggio, Green, Hicks and there we go. Let Addison Barger, Spencer Horowitz, and that moustache Snyder guy, and Ricki Tidamin (spelling) do their thing. The youth movement.

David Wells for essentially Mike Sirotka was a real stinker and they did get Wells back for two good years for
Clemens.

IMO, if he went against their plan and it didn't work out, he'd be canned and he'd have a rep as a guy who does not follow the wishes/orders of his superiors. It might be tough to get another gig. It's not like he has a track record and built a rep as a top notch manager. Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy could get away with that, but not a rookie manager.

Very true you can’t question the boss’s orders. Or was the whole thing optional for John Schneider to make the call?

It’s funny everybody is making such a big deal about this, when the reality is the Blue Jays couldnt hit if the life depended on it.

Ross Atkins is having his media availability tomorrow at 11am. Saturday morning of a long weekend. Hmmm, seems highly planned to minimize damage...

I guess that time was determined the analytics department, i.e. Baseball Operations.

Agreed and Schneider understood that he couldn't override that without winning the game and then the series. He knew, with good reason, not to have faith in the offence to score runs to win, so he played "by the book". That would be the analytics book.

“(Hank Aaron told me) ‘Don’t dig in against Bob Gibson, he’ll knock you down. He’d knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don’t stare at him, don’t smile at him, don’t talk to him. He doesn’t like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don’t run too slow, don’t run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don’t charge the mound, because he’s a Gold Glove boxer.’ I’m like, ‘Damn, what about my 17-game hitting streak?’ That was the night it ended.” – Dusty Baker

Just repeating what I heard on the radio.

Everybody knows that Shapeero is the actual GM. Atkins does not make a move without Shapeero's approval. It's not like Shapeero wakes up in the morning, reads the paper and says, "Oh, Ross did that?"

So firing Atkins would be like Shapeero saying that he was putting all the blame on Atkins and that he, himself, had nothing to do with the moves, which is nothing further from the truth. If there's firing, it's gotta be both of them.
