Morris's comment was shallow, I still think he needs to get cheeky with Ohtani's jets of gas and be done with it.

Morris fails as a comic, Carl Elwes dosen't and Kelly Ripa is a good sport.

Its 2021. If you think mocking a professional athlete for his ethnicity is what a sports broadcaster is paid to do, then I got nothing for yeah
He's not getting paid to do that, he just let something slip that he shouldnt have.
Its happened to almost everyone. There's not a person alive who hasnt said something stupid in his life and later regretted it

I understand what you're saying and for the most part you are right. This however is not just an accidental case of choosing a single word that does not fit current societal standards.

This is a case where he consciously had to go into character mode, like an actor, and mimic/mock another race. It was not a slip up. It was not inadvertent. Would it have been OK if he went into a southern black slave role saying "Yes. Massah. Right now Massah."?

Agreed.

I am stuck on the part he had to be told it was inappropriate. The fact that he just let that loose without any thoughts, and was unaware... He is supposed to be a professional.

I am going to walk back my terminate his ass comment.

He and Greg Zaun are from another era. They probably also think the Irish only like to drink, fight and fuck LOL. They could use some sensitivity training.

Isn't Dartsy Indian?

I still think Morris as a stipulation to keep his job should eat Ohtani's farts.

I hope Ohtani likes pickled eggs and beer.

you have an obsession with passing gas like Black Booty Lover has with making bets.....Morris did something really stupid and unprofessional, whether the intended target was offended or not.is irrelavant.......should he lose his job? hhmm tough one....but the Tiger organization felt it warranted a suspension and i guess thats all that matters

I can't speak for BBL but Rich Vos farted while Sam Roberts was introducing Ricky Gervais to the Jim and Sam Show - it was a moment of Zen.

On these matters I prefer to follow Mr. Williams philosophy on life.

Well, we can debate your proposition and it probably comes down to whether you are an asshole or not.

But Morris did it in a professional situation. His job is his personality and his voice and there's a shtick that baseball announcers do. Contrary to your post, 99.999999999% of baseball announcers know not to make racial jokes - whether seriously derogatory or not - and don't. They talk about baseball-y stuff like circle changes and where the best stadium hot dogs are and infield pop ups. Morris is an idiot and he talked about something else.

If I'm a colour commentator on a Jays game, I stick to baseball. And that's not my kid's tantrum, my wife's shopping sprees, the dick who cut me off in traffic yesterday or race jokes and mimicry. It's a "do your job professionally" thing.

I was having a conversation with someone, and some young woman who was eavesdropping nearby butted in and said "I'm offended by that.". I looked at her and said "You're not my wife, or my mom, or my boss. I'm not trying to sell you something, I don't want you to vote for me, and I don't want to bang you, so why should I give a rat's ass if YOU are offended? If you don't like what's being said, stop listening in on other people's conversations, or stick your fingers in your ears. Piss off.". She was gone in a flash.
That's pretty cool if you said that. Are you always able to spontaneously sound like a character in a Quentin Tarantino movie?

I'm fine w Morris just apologizing on air, or even just coming back after a 2-week absence. But they're not there to be "funny". It's unprofessional.
Yeah, they're not there to be "funny"!

The racist element is HUGE on Terb. This is simple enough.
Hmm, I don't want to be a racist, but I sure would like to be HUGE.

And as I'd said, it was not a "slip of the tongue" as Phil would have us believe. It was not a poor choice of a single inappropriate word. If it was a single word I could believe Phil's narrative and many of us fall prey to that.

But he went into character with his voice, accent and a number of words. It was deliberate and he knew exactly what he was doing.

Phil is making excuses for someone who intentionally employed racist stereotypes. We should keep in mind, though that Phil is a rightie. Racism is the domain of righties.

Righties don't like people "who don't look like them".

Sometimes, not always. I wrote quite a few of the jokes I posted in the Jokes of the Day thread. One post in that thread says which ones, up to that point. Often a good line will come to me spontaneously when I'm alone, and I'll save it until I have the right situation and or setup line.

I was having a conversation with a guy, and a young man interjected with his opinion of what I should have done differently. I said to him: "Your advice is unsolicited, unwanted and unneeded. One day you'll make some man an excellent WIFE!".

The fact of the matter is Morris comes from a generation where throwing ethnic jokes around without any regard was common place.

Just listen to a Buddy Hackett or Don Rickles routine from yesteryear. They'd be in for it today let me tell you.

I thought his apology on air was sufficient apparently the SJW's don't. But what really counts is Ohtani's opinion on this. Here it is again.

Might add that Ohtani's is about an impressive of a ball player that I have ever seen and from what I can see here is an equally impressive human being. Great answer. I would be good to have the both of them get together shake on this. Would be great for the game and help bridge the divisiveness that his remark caused.
