He got to hold the gun because his "job" was to collect guns from the arms cache inside the building and bring them out 1 by 1 in case the cache was booby trapped. There are several videos of him bringing guns out while the rest of the HAMAS guys stand there in their briefs at gunpoint.

The fat guy has to come out each time holding the gun at arms length over his head or they kill him.
