More details on how Israel struck a humiliating blow to Iran: The Israeli operation began in the the early hours of Saturday. More than 100 combat aircraft, including fighter jets and unmanned drones, took off from Israel. The jets first targeted air defense batteries and radars in Syria and Iraq. Having cleared the way, the jets flew toward Iran, more than 1,000 miles from Israel, and struck its air defense systems. A second wave of jets targeted Iran’s long-range missile production sites. The attack was specifically aimed at destroying a critical component in the production process. Israel's strikes avoided energy infrastructure like oil and gas production sites. Iran is playing down the impact of the strikes both to save face and allow it an offramp so things don't escalate further. Iran says Israel attacked military bases in three provinces — Tehran, Ilam and Khuzestan. Israel is believed to have targeted roughly 20 sites over the course of the night.

Producing surface-to-surface missiles is highly complex. Iran had several secret, fortified sites for mixing materials needed for missile production. One underground facility in Masyaf Syria, used by the IRGC of Iran, was destroyed on September 9 by an Israeli ground unit, leaving Iran reliant solely on its domestic facilities. With around 20 mixers essential to production now destroyed, Iran is currently unable to replenish its ballistic missile stockpile. The ‘Shaldag’ ground unit seized highly classified documents before destroying the facility in Syria back in September. Those gave Israel valuable intelligence about the facilities and their way of operations in Iran. Leaving the IRGC now only Production exposed for the Israeli forces. They can downplay it all they want, this strike alone is brilliant.
