While I'm sure you're going to discount this, let's get into it. Blacks are over represented in crime stats. Is it because they are more violent, as some people want to paint them. No, probably not. What you do see happen is a zero-tolerance approach when the police or DA get involved with blacks, while whites tend to get warnings, probation or other things instead of charges (peace bonds etc.). So, statistically, you see higher levels of black arrests and convictions. The other issue is black communities are over policed. They use the "broken window" premise, so they are out every day writing tickets or making arrests where in a white neighbourhood they might give warnings or let things slide. So, the social-economic conditions black people live in is tied to this and other historical issues. Red lining and the inability of blacks to get government backed mortgages in the 50s and 60s (and even later) stole generational wealth from millions.
Finally, as the old saying goes, correlation does not imply causation. We need to look at how simple interactions with police can turn deadly for unarmed black men. Eric Garner was choked to death because he was selling loose cigarettes. Several others were shot in the back when they were running from police. Now, I know whites and other groups have been killed by police in similar fashions, but statistically, the number of blacks dying is significantly larger.
Now, as to the second point, affirmative action is not reverse discrimination. If we look at the recent college admission scandal, how many privileged, wealth white people got their kids into schools they shouldn't be attending? Think about who was squeezed out of slots for those folks?
When I hear you say reverse discrimination, I think of white victimhood. This black applicant you mention, would you have felt better if it was a white dude who was friends of the hiring manager? Or a women? Do you think affirmative action gives POC a leg up over others? I mean, compared to all the crap they need to get to that level? No matter how accomplished they are, and if they get the job totally based on merit, there will be people who say they are a token hiring, done to fullfuill some DEI initiative.
C'est la vie....
